This is one of my weak areas, suspension. Could you guys enlighten me on what I need to do for a proper drop. I know I need springs and shocks. What else? What are coilovers? Camber links? I want to give my ride a nice drop on 17" wheels with a Kaminari Kit. Any help is welcome.

camber links are need more for drops 2" or lower

I've also got the Kam kit and I wouldn't recommend a drop that drastic because the kit sits pretty low already, go with either H&R, Progress or TRD

Coilovers allow you to adjust the ride height, depending on the type you get you have the ability to adjust other settings

Do coilovers include springs and shocks, or is it just a whole nother thing? So what drop is recommended for a Kaminari Kit with 17'wheels?

A good coilover system like a Tein SS system, you can adjust it to whatever height or ride comfort you like. But this particular system costs about a grand.

Something cheaper you could do is get TRD springs and struts. It gives you a 1.5 inch lower stance and a almost stock ride.

I had Teins on my VR4 and they give a very harsh ride. Before that I had Ground Control coil-over sleeves (w/ KYB's) - it's a threaded collar that slips over the shock tube (comes with springs) so you can put it on any shock. The ride with the GC's was very bouncy - I did'nt like it at all. Also, I found out after installing everything that KYB VOIDS WARRANTY if you use coil-over sleeves. They said the spring diameter is too small to support the shock so it wears out the shock faster. I have seen ads for SkunkWorks coil-over sleeves for Celica's - if you go this route, check with what ever shock you plan to use to see if tey will honor the warr. Generally the lower you drop your car the harsher the ride quality, and with stiff spring rates the shock may not be able to handle the rebound and you end up with a "bouncy" ride (not to mention ground clearence issues). Hope this helps.

Thanks, what do you think about this set up:
Eibach or Goldline springs with toxico shocks. I won't need anything else right?

Don't forget a good 4-wheel alignment afterward

Tony, 2" drop. Do you have a body kit? What springs/shocks did you use? Is the ride really stiff?

hey all,
i'm working on my suspension too and just put in a decent front strut bar which i definitely recommend, the rmm front strut bar, and this will help a lot with the overall chassis support and was highly recommended by a bunch of celica owners an alternative would be the APR Bar if you wanna save a few bucks. for lowering i heard the eibach pro kit is nice but i have the kaminari kit too and think my car is already low enough and am concerned about dropping it too low, is there another decent spring kit that minimizes the actual lowering drop but still provides great handling? i'm looking for the least amount of lowering with a decent level of upgraded performance. if anyone has any ideas i'd much appreciate it, thanx...

Goldline claims 1.75" drop and factory quality ride. In a couple of weeks I think I'm going to try those. I don't want the car to be too stiff.

i was told that anything lower than 1.8" you need to get a camber link. maybe they were wrong.
