This may be an old subject, but I read the new Corolla is coming with a new engine or old for us the same as Celica GTS. It's rated at only 170 HP I think, revamped for better midrange, so they say. I think not to have a conflict with the Celicas, but any ways. Any thoughts on the new Corolla? Corolla [ corolland.com] What about the 6 speed? I'm sure the aftermarket will have a field day with it. I hope it helps the Celicas benefit from it also. There's an article in Motor Trend or something like I can't remember?

it looks pretty cool, but a corolla is a corolla to me... if celis benefit from it, thats cool, but in the same way its lame that we didnt get huge aftermarket support from the start

Will be a crappy car.
170 HP sucks, 180 sucks too.
They need a 230HP SC Engine.
Now.

I agree, but where's the support for US. A corolla pushing out 170 HP! I'm happy it's not 200+ HP car that would definitely leave all interest in the Celica in the dust. What about a new Celica? It just makes me pissed. Do away with the Corolla and make many models of the Celica...like trims in 150 hp, 180 hp, 210+ hp and the necessary luxury and sport trims like any other car company. The Celica is dead in the water unless the aftermarket brings it back. It just seems too me it was a project of Toyota that failed in the North American Region but brought interest in other models of Toyota's line. They gambled and lost with the biggest market on the planet and is pushing the Corolla name (and others) to keep up with the demand of other car companies for an economical, inexpensive, performance car for the whole family. I just hope 2 or 3 years down the line that I won't get beaten by a Corolla straight from the factory .

Wondering if they just did that to piss off Honda, and new owners of Cavaliers and Sunfires. I like to think so.
