I am having a problem where my engine makes a slight scratchy/scrubbing noise when holding the engine at a certain rpm. This usually occurs around 3000-4000 rpm, but it also has happened around 2500 as well. It started doing this at around 3000 miles and has been doing it ever since, I now have 6200 miles on it and am starting to get concerned. Any ideas what this might be? Thanks!

It's a 2003, I'm not sure if it's the belt or engine, I don't know too much about engines. Sometimes it doesn't do make the noise at all, but 90% of the time it does and it sounds rough.

since it's 2003, take it to the dealer first to let them hear wut you hear.

if they dont solve the problem, we will start from there.
EDIT: if it's the belt, buy a bottle call "Belt Dressing" and try. my dealer fucked up my belt by lubing it...

I did a little more talking with some people and more testing on when the noise happens. It doesn't seem to happen if I am at a complete stop and revving the engine and holding it anywhere between 2500-4000 rpm. So I'm almost suspecting it isn't the engine anymore. I've also tried pushing the clutch in all the way and keeping the revs while I'm cruising at around 40 mph and it doesn't make the noise either when I keep the revs around 3500 rpm. It seems that the only time it makes noise is when I'm in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear when I'm moving and the clutch is not pressed in and i'm either accelerating or just holding the revs anywhere between 2500-4000 rpm. The loudest noise comes usually when I'm in 3rd and holding it around 3500 rpm. Could this be a transmission problem? If so, what would make such a noise? If not, any other thoughts? I'm almost sure that the dealer is going to send me away saying they can't find anything wrong, hopefully they don't charge to look at it.
