Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior for short ram owners: how to beat heat soak?

i keep reading heat soak renders the intake "worthless".is there any way to prevent this or at the least minimize it's effects?? is a heat sheild the only option??

i have had the short ram for about a year now and i have never had any problems regarding heat soak, and i dont have a heat shield. I think you really only have to worry about it in the dead of summer if your sitting in traffic.

What is heat soak?

don't get me wrong ever since i got my short ram i felt nothing but gain (but i think i lost some on the low end like expected). i just wondered that if it DID happen i would know what to do. because i hear if heat soak happens you get worse performance than the stock air filter. i just wanted to know also if anyone had good experience with the heat sheild..or if it's just an ornament.

BTW-heat soak is when you leave your engine running for a while and the temp under your hood increases your short ram is sucking in hot air hampering performance.

Should have gone with CAI. Would a raised hood scoop help this problem you guys have? Or how about those new Carbon Fiber hoods (invader and BRS)?
