Hey guys, listen up this is very important...

Yesterday, my friend Jon and I decided to do the "K&N Air Filter Recharger" thing on our Injen CAII filters. After I cleaned my filter, I proceded to secure it back onto the intake aluminum tube when I noticed something very bad. My intake tube was rubbing against the metal part of my wheel well and made a hole the size of a dime in the tube, allowing unfiltered air and debris to enter the intake and throttle body.

If your aluminum cold air intake tube is rubbing against parts of the cut-out wheel well or the metal parts of the frame... it will vibrate a HOLE in your intake tube.

What a coincidence, I was going to post something about this tonight. I took my CAI off today, and I have the same thing. I do not have a hole, but I have deep scratches in it. It really sucks.

Reposition your intake so that it doesn't rub against ANYTHING!

Thanks for the heads up! Is this a problem associated with Injen CAI only or will it happen with AEM and others? I haven't bought one yet and I'd like to avoid this if poss.

I imagine it is the same with ALL COLD AIR INTAKES. When you drive the car, obviously the engine will shake the hell out of the intake tube. If the intake tube is rubbing against anything while vibrating, erosion will occur to either one of the objects in contact.

If you just install your intake so that NOTHING non-related is touching it, you'll be fine.

Mine was worst. I had the first Gen. Injen CAI, it was rubbing against the tranny. I had to put a piece of thick leather there. It is so ghetto. I am getting my 3rd gen. soon.

Deng, I wish I was aware of this earlier... My friend Jon let me use some aluminum tape to bandage my poor CAI.

take a look at the bottom of the following URL, I think AEM made something useful for that kind of problem

Thanks for the heads up. I'm getting a splashguard made at work next week. So I'm going to pull the bumper and bring the filter to work. I'll make sure nothing is rubbing on it, or close to it.
