Like the topic says.. is it functional? I mean do the two scoops work well together or does the one cancel the other out? I see a lot of them on different cars and I was just curious.

it's VERY functional.

think of it this way. the original celica scoop (facing the wind) forces cooler air INTO the engine bay which obviously cools the engine.

with the VIS invader hood, they add an additional (windshield facing scoop). this scoop acts as a vacuum and 'pulls' air OUT of the engine bay.

because the wind-facing scoop is positioned further back (closer to the windshield), the air must circulate entirley through the engine bay before it is sucked out through the invader scoop (windshielf facing scoop).

cooler air is forced in, hotter air is sucked out--very functional--but it still won't add THAT much performance.

I agree with above your engine will be cooler and run better and the benefits of the lost weight. Plus a sick ass looking hood.

the above explanation is how it would work in a perfect world..of course it doesnt work exactly as planned because lots of air is being forced in through the grill (not just the scoop) and plus obviously a lot of air is also sucked out from underneath the car.

in any case--the above explanation still holds true on a large enough scale to work as vis racing intended it to...so the slight performance increase is still helpful enough. thumbsup

but as mentioned--the main advantage to the vis hood is that
1. its carbon fiber--so its a lot of weight savings, and
2. it looks tight as hell (style is a very good reason to buy something--regardless of performance)

haha, of course you could go hoodless and do a LOT of weigt savings that way.

but at high speeds your car would probably be unstable due to the fact that wind would be unevenly distrbuted over your leading edges thumbsup

above posts put it very well - more style than function in the real world setting. Weight savings is the most beneficial aspect of the Carbon Fiber hood performance-wise.

how about water? what happens when the water drains into the engine through the first scoop? will it affect the engine?

how much water would you have to worry about falling into the engine bay with that large opening??

very little to no water enters the reverse scoop... there may be a little buildup of water in the creases before the scoop, but thats all ive experienced.

edit... is that your neon in the sig?

ditto. think about it, you have to drive your car in reverse in drenching rain at an extremely high speed in order to soak your shortram from the reverse hoodscoop.

normal driving in rain only puts water through the normally positioned hoodscoop (which everything in your engine bay IS waterproof except your shortram). very little water is actually put into your engine bay through the reverse hoodscoop while driving in rain (foward driving = water in normal positioned hoodscoop = no water on shortram)

the really only case water can spray into your reverse hoodscoop is if you were at a standstill (parked, etc.) and in that case it will just run off the hoodscoop and harmlessly into your engine bay thumbsup

in any case--hydrolock is VERY uncommon in cai's. and i've NEVER heard of hydrolock on a shortram under ANY conditions.

Off topic but oh well...

SRT-4's are bad ass.. Really.. the 04's come with a 230 HP turbo charged engine...stock.. (I've seen one smoke the sh*t out of a Dodge Viper.. craziness) and at only around 21k I think we will see a lot more of them in the future. The only sad thing is they look like a freaking cartoon character *not a big fan of the Neon's design*
