Is there an actual performance difference between a transmission with 5 and 6 speeds?

if the GTS had a 5speed then it would not be able to land in lift, which would make its 1/4 mile time a lot slower

was....5speed with i/h/e
15.41 @ 89.30mph 2.282 60'

is....04 srt4 stock
13.936 100.15mph 2.177 60'

Not talking about the celica. Just cars cars in general. What I am actually thinking about is the EVO (5 speed) and STi (6 speed).

cars like those have the best suited gear box for how they perform. then it's just a matter of personal choice

Nobody has given a direct answer, so I guess I'll try...

Number of gears doesn't really matter that much. The difference between ratios in the gears you use to accelerate does matter. In general, all the gears ratios will be closer in a six speed than in a five. That is what makes the difference. However, that difference is far less pronounced in cars with a powerband that comes lower in the RPM range.

Yes he is right that is essential for the GTS being that the lift does not kick in till 6000 rpm's... thumbsdown
