Number of gears doesn't really matter that much. The difference between ratios in the gears you use to accelerate does matter. In general, all the gears ratios will be closer in a six speed than in a five. That is what makes the difference. However, that difference is far less pronounced in cars with a powerband that comes lower in the RPM range.

Yes he is right that is essential for the GTS being that the lift does not kick in till 6000 rpm's...
