Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Help with Tires

I am about to get some G-Racing 18's and having the hardest time with tires. The dealer wants to give me 215-35-18, but I'm not sure how low a profile that really is. What is a good size for a smoother ride??

I was thinking 225-40-18 but not sure...

your combination (225-40-18) would provide for a slightly smoother ride (but it most probably wouldnt be noticeable). having a slightly wider tire and slighty higher sidewall will help takes the bumps incrementaly better...but as i said the difference is probably nill (that said, every little bit helps).

the dealers choice (215-35-18) is the practical choice. the sidewall is slightly shorter so it will make your 18s look even bigger (which is obviously important to you otherwise you wouldnt have gotten 18s to begin with). and depending on who is doing the selling..the dealers choice may also be slightly cheaper (but will most likely be the same price)

215/35 are generaly more expensive than 225/40 'cuz the smaller the sidewall, the more expensive it is to produce. If you plan to get coilovers down the road, then I would go with a 225/40 to smoothen the ride a little bit. But if you're just gonna get springs then go with 215/35.

225/40 gives you 15mm extra (optical) lowering and 15mm less clearance problems

definately 225 over 215, and between 35 and 40, its just whichever you think looks better. a friend of mine has 18's with 35 profile tires, and it looks really good.
