I've been cruising the site for awhile looking for some tips, but I'm still quite confused about some things. I figure it may be easier just to explain to you what my objective is, and maybe you guys can tell me if its doable.

I own a blue 2001 Celica and haven't done many mods to it. I've tinted in the windows, added a black bra, and added black altezza tail lights. I'm basically going for a very dark look, and the black and blue go nice togehter. I've decided its time to get some Rims and lower my car. The rims I've already picked out and will be some chrome Konig Prophet 18's. But where I am totally lost is concerning the lowering.

I've seen lots of Celicas on this site that look nice lowered, but almost all have body kits, so I'm having trouble gauging what a drop on mine would look like. I'm not a big fan of body kits, and prefer the classic look. Because of this I don't think I should be too concerned with how low the body is to the ground, because without a body kit I should have plenty of room. What I am concerned with is the distance between the tire and the body.

I've attached a picture (and what a nice picture it is!) of a celica with the look I'm trying to achieve as far as the distance between the tire and body goes. I'm wondering if this look is even possible with factory fenders?? Please help if you can.

that guy has 19's...and the wheel wells are stock...i think he just has fender flares molded over...so you should be able to do it...correct me if im wrong...

your best bet is to get a coilover system so you can adjust it as low as possible without rubbing ur tires thumbsup

FUCK! That looks awesome.

Far from standard though. Looks like 19s dropped on coilovers, probably between 1.5 and 2 inches. Color looks awesome, but thats a respray with custom paint. Skirts look like veilside, spoiler is APR. Not sure about the front though. Its similar to the standard.

You're right though, the subtle changes are the best because its such a great looking car. If you want your car to look like that, then just use all the same parts. It would help if you could contact the owner, but now you've posted that they may come forward.

Good luck anyway. Sorry I couldn't be of much more help

Looks like a carbon fibre hood too.

I think the reason it looks so good is because its had about 12-15 grand spent on it. LOL. Thats close on 20,000 dollars

Yeah I saw he had 19's, but with the way the body goes over the wheel in the back, I didn't know if he did something special for that to work. Also I wasn't sure if the fender flares added room for the tire to fit also.

I've seen some Celicas that were dropped with hotchkis springs, but they don't look low enough for my taste. This guy's distance is perfect, but I didn't know if I could achieve the same with springs, or if I would be FORCED to buy coilovers.

Because I'm spending so much on the wheels/tires, I was looking for a cheaper route on the lowering. Springs would be ideal, but I have no idea how to gauge the drop distance from pics, or if its even possible. spineyes

Yeah I definitely couldn't afford what he did overall, but his lowering distance is what I'm trying to achieve.

that is a trd kit with a carbon fiber front lip. just go with some adjustable springs and use your stock struts. should last you plenty long enough until you save up for full coilovers.

its the full trd kit with molded fender flares on 19" i believe he mentioned that you cannot turn your wheels all the way on 19s

EDIT: tatoos7---"This is a polyurathane TRD kit blended with fender flares. The mods right now are APR Carbon Fiber GT mirrors, APR Celica SPEC GT-200 Carbon fiber wing, VIS carbon fiber GT Extreme Grade A carbon fiber hood. TCS Carbon fiber wind splitter. Custom Paint

That sounds like a viable option. I guess my next questions would be

a) where can I get the best deal on these? and
b) what are the difference between full coilovers and adjustable springs?

Thanks everyone for your responses. thumbsup

This is another thing I'm confused about. Doesn't the tire stay the same size regarless of rim size?

Have to agree with you there. Probably cost half as much to do as a lot of Celicas too. In my opinion it looks like a real sports car, far nicer than the APR Celica featured in Max Power this month.

Hats off to whoever owns it. Give me 12 months though and I think I'll have mine looking nicer. wink

i think you should go with skunk 2. wholesalehyperformance.com has them for 325.00.skunk 2 are just eibach springs with their own adjustable perch. second, coilovers are a full integration of the shock and adjustable spring where the adjustable spring is a adjustable perch and spring wich slides over the stock shock. make sense?

I looked on their site and the skunk2 springs I saw were $220.00 and didn't say they were adjustable. Was I looking in the wrong place?

For a comparison, I found this picture on another site, and the girl who owns the car said she dropped it 2" in the front and 3" in the back. Like me, she doesn't have a body kit. I heard some people on here suggest goldline springs for a car with 18's but I"m not sure if they were assuming the car had a body kit or not??

yeah its a good brand...they use eibach springs and make their own adjustable perch. you will not have to worry about the perch cracking or anything like weapon R or a no name. plus they are easy to adjust.let me know how it all turns out
