Is starting in second possible with more hp, or is that just asking to hear the aweful bogging noise-(which seems to have become more frequent in my machine for some reason)

from a stop its doable if you burn the clutch alittle, i start in 2nd all the time, just not from a dead stop. cars with more power can start in 2nd from a dead stop, did it with my friends cobra, but its just not good for the car.

I start in 2nd from a dead stop all the time and usually don't even notice that I did. I forget to put it back into 1st before I pull out. thumbsup

one question, why would anyone want to start in any gear, why dont you just start in neutral, and why would you start in 2nd if you were to start in a gear??

rofl rofl That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't even wanna know his technique.

As for starting in 2nd, there is no problem with it really. I taught myself to drive stick by starting in second from every stop. Once you learn not to stall starting in 2nd, it seems quite a bit easier in 1st. spineyes

No problem with starting in second from dead stop with my GT.

alright, my bad, i taught for some reason you guys were saying that you start the car (turning it on) in second and so forth, but i finally realized that you mean, taking off in second, which is more understandable now, so yeah, i can start off in second too, but doesnt that ruin your clutch, and doesnt it take off slower, so my question still stays, why would you want to start in 2nd and not in 1st?

well in teh celicas case 1st is really short so you ahve to shift right away wear second is almost like otehr cars frist gear. unless you can't drive there is no additional wear on teh clutch startign in second.

Main reason would be in slick road conditions, such as snow. You'll have a much lower chance of spinning the tires if it's really bad. Also, I know a few people who have been doing it to save gas, since we're getting raped at the pump out here in Cali.
