it's on this months edition of R&D. The celica had the best lap time and reviews from the writers at R&D when pitted against the lancer, focus svt, dodge neon srt-4, nissan se-r, civic si...and i believe some others i am leaving out. the test was done at a track at hungtington beach and the celica (equiped with only the trd action package, trd struts, springs, and 18" wheels) got the best lap times than all the other cars posted above that some were equipped with Turbos and lsds!!!...it is curious why the rsx-s was not in the mix...would the outcome be different? the whole idea of the race is how far these cars can be pushed with factory options only... rice

The RSX-S pitted against a celica with suspension mods on the track would not be a very fair test. spineyes

i bet the rsx would be modded as well...whatever mugen or spoon could deliver...or whatever their counterpart to trd is...weird though how just struts and springs the celica beat out all the other cars...can you imagine if trd put in their rear strut bar, sways, and lsd...lol...what an ass kicking that would be...lol rofl

exactly, even if spoon or mugen modded the RSX to the limit with suspension mods, the celica would STILL walk all over it (mod for mod). spineyes

what tires were used? thats a big difference
how low were each cars compared to the other?
18" wheels = more traction

a LOT more info is needed to make a fair comparison.

Does anyone else see why the Celica won the handling hands-down?

It's the only non-economy car in that bunch. All the rest are just econo-boxes that are modded to be "sporty" trims. Of course modding a true sport-compact is going to produce better results than modding a factory-modded economy car.

yeah i wondered where the tibby was, or the rsx, or 1.8T jetta...cars in our classes...we still edge out in handling (the celica hold 2 of 3 S.C.C. cornering/handling records)...but it would be nice to have them there...
