Need some advice on whether I should get 17 or 18 inch rims for my GT.

I drive my GT on a daily basis (no racing), simply a car for day-to-day use. Is the 18 inch suitable for day-to-day driving?

What is the life expectancy in terms of mileage I can expect for the tires if I go with the 17 or 18 inch rims?

Will the 18 inch consume more gas because it makes more effort to grip the road? If so, how much more?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Below is the rims I'm thinking about getting, just haven't decided which size.

usually the rule to live by is 17's for Performance and 18's for show, unless they're light rims (Volk, SSR comp's). But since you won't be racing, 18's are fine for daily driving and they'll look hela nice...

also, if the gas mileage decreases at all with 18's, it will be minimal

rims look good by the way... thumbsup

thats actually a pretty hard choice...since its daily driving idk 17 tires are normally cheaper, its really your choice, both will be fine, but with 18's you run a greater risk of bending your rims because you dont have a lot of rubber (tires)

i'd choose the 17's for tons of reasons, their..

cheaper
less chance of bending
tires are cheaper
better acceleration

I'd say, if you are going to get an aftermarket set of rims, you might as well get the biggest as possible, especially if you don't care about Performance and you don't drive the car hard.

17's for Performance, 18's for show, and if you can get light weight rims at 18(same weight as stock rims, or less), then go with 18 for all around!!

if your going for Performance i would say 15, or 16 inches, but since your not i DEFINATELY SAY 18 , they look a lot better than 17's on a celica IMO.

personally, i say get 17s (although 18s are very good for style).

with 17s you get a nice size rim that's big enough to be noticeable and usually light enough not to cause too much wear.

with 18s, the increased weight puts extra strain on your drivtrain so you have to be extra careful you keep it well maintained or your car will not last as long as it should.

The TRD Celica that they tested on the track in the newest issue of SPEED magazine by Road&Track has a GTS equiped with TRD 18X7.5 and 225/40/18 tires, and the magazine says that the wheels really benefit the Celica. Which by the way took first place beating out the Mistubishi Lancer Ralliart, Civic Si HFP, FOCUS SVT, Neon SRT-4, NIssan sentra SE-R Speec V Nismo edition, Mazda protege speed ( celica had a faster lap time around the track than all those cars and won first place.) sweet huh
