Perhaps a few of you here have the knowledge I seek. What is with the term SS-II?

I had noticed this on Gran Tourismo 3 long ago and never really thought about researching it, but for both sixth & seventh gen. Celica's they referr to them as SS-II. I did a quick search on Google for the Celica SS-II and just some sixth gens. came up, but the GT3 thing came up and so did the car list for GT4 Progolue where is was listed as (2003) Toyota Celica SS-II Tuning Car.

Also, most sites with SS-II where non-english.. so I would guess it's either some Asian or European thing or just a referance to a specific type of sixth gen.. but it doesn't explain the SS-II used for the 2000 Celica in GT3 and the '03 in GT4 Prologue.

I beleive it has 190 hp because of mostly the High octane levels over there.

SS II = Super Sayen II

Pretty much every country except for North American has a 190hp Celica GTS because of emission laws, they are a bit more slack else where.. and thus allows the car to push more power out of the box compared to North American models.

But as it's said, 10hp isn't that noticable, perhaps on some levels it is.. you can get that power back by buyiny CAI I believe.

and that's 10 crank HP, probably 6-7 WHP at the most.

That's quite possible.. I know the emission laws are differant in some other countries and that's the reason why their Celica's are allowed to come stock with more power, I guess they must be missing something that North American cars have to reduce the amount of pollution. But Japan does have a really high octane in gas, so that helps a ton too, because I imagine since they only have higher grades of gas that their cars are tuned a bit differantly and they can utilize that higher octane.

As for GT4P well I imagine you can only get it in Japan right now, so get it that way (maybe you can download it online) and then have your PS2 chipped and there you go.

You have to pass an inspection every 3 years unless you pay a large amount of money to have it passed.

That's why a lot of Japanese drivers have nice, new, clean, good looking cars. They end up buying new cars because it's sometimes cheaper than paying to get it inspected.

Pretty surprised no one knew the proper answer or simply didn't care..

SS-I = GT
SS-II = GTS
SS-II (superstrut) = No North American equal. (has double wishbone suspension all around)

Got the info. thanks to Vic' (owner/admin) at Celica Garage
