Going to buy an Impact Wrench and an Air Compressor to power it with, and need some opinions on both. How much torque do I need the impact wrench to put down for stuff like tranny bolts, lug nuts, valve cover bolts, etc. In other words, what's the maximum amount of torque I will need for any part on the Celica?

Also, how big of an air compressor do I need? I want an oil free one, but that's not that big of an issue. I need to know how many PSI's it should produce, and how much HP is should run at.

Any input will be appreciated, for I have no idea when it comes to this stuff. Just looking for a useful little tool to replace my socket wrench. happywink

Thanks.

Ha, I don't know...It's Easter.

Anyways, what are the benefits and disadvantages of having a weak or powerful air compressor and using it with an impact wrench?

In other words, can you use a 150 PSI, 2 horsepower compressor and still power an impact wrench adaquetly?

If I get to small of a compressor, will the wrench not work right, or will the compressor ALWAYS run?

as long as the compressor can maintain a certain psi for x amount of time, X is how long you would be holding the trigger on the gun, it would work.let the tank fill up first then start.
a word of advice, dont go using the gun on everything on the celica! you can fu.ck things up if you are not accustomed to using an impact gun,
personally, for me, i dont want nobody to use an impact gun on my car except the wheel lugs!
be careful with the celica dude, a lot of aluminum parts! thumbsup

didnt see the first part,
2 3 4 hp could work,we have a small compressor, and 1/2" impact gun that we use when we travel to drag race.it cant be more than 2hp and it does just about everything.
remember the torque specs for some aluminum parts are really hi as compared to its metal counterparts like, crank pulleys etc. 108 for celica i think, most times on some other motors its about 80 90.

if the gun can work,
its dependent on the size,i usually judge,by whether its a 1/2" or 3/4" drive.you know that a 3/8" drive would be debatable whether it can do the job.

i have a Husky 25 or 30 gallon(can't remember) 5-hp air compressor and it does very well.
why would you want an air compressor that uses no oil? things would sieze up thumbsdown
anyway's good luck...

That's what I'm worried about. Using the gun for a few seconds and then having the compressor turn on every minute, so on and so forth.

Only thing I wanna use it for is lugs and tranny bolts.
