and i put in regular instead of premium. this isn't gonna harm anything is it? i mean it was only one time so as long as i put premium in from now on i should be fine right? makes me wonder if the previous owner used premium though... frown

get ready for an interesting ride.

It's going to knock and ping like crazy if you rev it.

The dealer put that in the car when I bought mine, I had them drain the tank and refill it.

11.5:1 compression no likey da 89 frown

oh sh1t man. so what if the previous owner did that a lot. can it do damage or will it just cause the engine to not perform at its peak?

the previous owner most likely didn't do it, it makes the car hard to drive.

I don't think it's going to damage anything, it's just going to run like shit

Just be sure to run your car till there is REALLY low fuel, I'm not sure but I thought mixing gases wasn't such a great idea. You could always draint he tank but that takes time as well. It's up to you. I had 87 octane the first time I filled my gts and I didn't notice any knocking, but then again I didn't drive it hard.

This is a bad idea. Draining the tank down low on poor grade gas could cause problems with your injectors.

Best bet is to run it down to 1/2 of a tank, then fill it with premium.

then down to a 1/4 tank, fill with premium, then to a 1/4 tank again and fill with premium.

then, only a small amount of the gas in the tank will be 89.

It's not harmful, whatever you do don't rev it up or it'll knock and ping

Knocking is extremely harmfull for the engine. So don't rev it past 3000rpm.

be gentle with it. i sell toyotas for a living. When yo fill up from now on use 93, and maybe the next time you fill up use a fuel injector cleaner. just be gentle

octane booster doesn't do anything. Just burn the low grade fuel of by daily driving.

I filled my GT up with 87 the other day...full tank. Anyone think this will do any harm to my car if driven above 3000 rpms?

The GT runs better on 87 octane than with premium.

Check the owners manual if you don't believe me.

Didn't know that the owner's manual suggested 87 octane but that's what I always happen to use. Never had any problems thumbsup

would you guys say that filling up with 89, 91, or 93 would be a waste of money then? I know the manual recommends 87, or regular, but surely a better gas wouldnt hurt right?

Why would you not put premium fuel in a car that is designed to run only premium??? I wouldn't even consider regular if premium was four times as more expensive.. it is a bad bad idea.

Erich_H: Yeah 89 octane is fine, since the GT only needs regular grade anyways.. and people who put premium fuel in their car that is designed for regular, they are not always getting a benefit. If anything, it's said that you are only wasting your money because the engines are made specially to optimize the type of fuel grade you are suppose to put it.

You have a GT so just buy the cheap stuff.

He has a GTS, so he should use premium fuel. Two completely different engines.

don't run anything but premium in your GTS, the 11.5 compression ratio needs it.
