I do believe you have to either remove it, or disconnect it from the transmission.

well from my auto class we had a car that had problems with an auto tranny.. we ripped the tranny apart witht the car on a lift, no need to take out engine.

i think it will be the same for manuals..

one of the motor mount bolts will have to be removed. once again if you dont have a lift its going to be a bitch and a half.

lift front end of car up.
unbolt one side of motor mount.
unbolt tranny and slide clutch out.
replace with other clutch and reverse the process.

Sounds easy but laying down on your back and doing the job sucks donkey balls. took me and my pops the whole afternoon and hes been a mechanic for 40 years. it just slows you down when you dont got the right lift and everything is being done on your back.

if you want to take it to a shop i suggest not to go to toyota. there are other shops out there independantly owned who will charge less and do the same work.

I did it with my gf's dad. You don't have to unbolt the engine, or any of its mounts. You do have to unbolt the tranny mount (duh). Take off the front wheels, battery, ECU, Intake, etc.

Hope you're using a lift.

It is a very difficult install to accomplish, but if you think you can do it, then have confidence and do it right, or risk paying even more if for some reason you mess up.

Good luck! smile
