When there is a manual gts does it always come with a 6 sp or can it also have a 5 sp? I'm still confused on this subject after searching for ahile. Thanks!

yes. american spec celica gts manuals (7th gen) are all 6-spd.

some other countries have 6-spd 'gt' versions, though and if i remembver right there are 5-spd 'gts' versions in other countries (not called gt or gts though...they have a few different names like sx, zx, etc.)

6-speed. Its the JDM GT that can come in 5 and 6-speed I believe.

Isn't it Australia that has model names like that and both models have the 2zz-ge engine? I'm pretty sure that's what I read some where on here, so maybe that's who has the differant trannies.. but it makes you wonder, why the hell would a GT like model (be it 1zz or 2zz) have a six-speed and the higher end model have a possible five-gear model? It doesn't add up...

I guess so... I have a european Celica with a 1ZZ-FE engine (the engine from GT) and a 6-speed transmission... But on the other hand the european Celica, regardless of engine type, is equivalent to GTS

European Celica:

Celica Sol: 1ZZFE (GT) with 6 speed transmission (only 3, 5 and 6 are different from the 5 speed, 1, 2 and 4 are the same), it comes with rear disc brakes (no drums), stereo with cd, automatic airco, keyless entry, 16 inch wheels, ...
AND NO 5 SPEED.

Celica T-sport: 2ZZGE (GTS) and is exactly the same as the Sol version (different gear ratios). BUT NO 5 SPEED.

Canada:

GT: 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual

GTS: 4 speed auto e-shift or 6 speed manual

Other differences between GT and GTS include rear disk brakes, rim size (but all seem to be aluminum, none come with steel rims as some models in the US seem to.)
