recently i was told that there was going to be no 05 celica. well if anyone has any other info let me know, also whats toyota coming out with to fill the vacant spot in their line up and is the supra gonna be coming back since the celica is gone... surely toyota cant be putting another corollaish car in their line up.
uh...corolla gts?... or xrs i forgot, but it's a much sportier corolla with a gts engine i think? you wouldn't be interested..but yea..either that or the scion TC get this rumors say that TC stands for "toyota celica" meaning that car IS the next celica?? i've seen it at the LA auto show..liked it then, but later it looked weird, i mean..it's a scion...watever i love MY 01 celica..hehe
I got this from toyotacelicaonline.com...hopefully toyota doesnt do this to the celica
Above is a Toyota released teaser for the upcoming Scion tC. The "C" standing for "Coupe," the tC is based of the Toyota Avensis (European-based car which fits between the Camry and Corolla) and will come with the 2.4L I4 out of the Camry. The tC will be unveiled at the 2004 Detroit Auto show and go on sale June 2004. Toyota is also supposed to have the tC released with a full glass roof along the lines of the CCX concept car.Above is a Toyota released teaser for the upcoming Scion tC. Dont think so...but its all rumors right now. Billys dad went to a toyota dealer with the big japanese players in toyota, and there was no mention on the status of the celica, and the MR2 is discontinued.
well maybe they should do what ppl ask for.. im sure if they had a Turbo or supercharged version availiable celicas would sell a lot more. it looks like a 30,000 car, just doesnt perform like one. that is without our aftermarket parts we spend sooo much on...
I really hope they don't make a '05 Celica, mainly because I want the value of my car to retain, plus it would be nice just to have four years for the seventh gen. and make it some what exclusive because it is a great little car.. we don't need a bunch more of our cars driving around with the average person in them, so it would be nice if they became discontinued and then became soley a tuner car.
The tC looks awsome, I think it looks pretty sophisticated so that's cool. I did hear the Corolla is going to get the 2zz-ge engine, but I hope it doesn't because that sounds just hurting.. it's bad enough the Matrix XR-S has our engine..though it's very cool in the Elise.
The only "replacement" sports car is going to be that Volta or what ever it is, one magazine article with a picture I scanned and posted on this forum said it was a hybrid Supra with 400bhp..search for it.
~* Brotherhood Of Eternal Sleep *~ - Nocturnal Supremacy -
So long as they continue to support the 2ZZ engine, I don't care, kill it or keep it in production.
I ppersonaly agree, for the cost you pay, and the way the car looks, it should perform better than it actually does.
I sort of like the tC, more than the xa/xb models. I think it has promise.
I doubt celica will go away, but they'll probably redesign it for 2006/2007 model year.
If the MR2 is gone, odds are because it is being replaced by a different sports model (New supra, or comparable replacement) Concepts built on the IS300 platform seem to be what will come down the pipe (Solara=redesigned lexus)
There has been a rumor that the celica will move to scion, this is now condidered false, since it turns out that it was the tC (Which is not a celica, as it turned out)
Nobody can tell the future, and toyota has been tight-lipped. I think a suprize is coming soon...
There may not be a 05' celica but in the latest issue of "SPEED" (a branch of road and track) they say the 8th gen celica will have 230hp coming from a 2.3 liter Turbocharged or supercharged 4cylinder engine with VVTLi. Toyota says there also be a possibility to recreate the good ol' GT4. As for a supra toyota has a concept out that has an estimated 300hp from a Turbocharged hybrid engine. The celica is projected for a 2006 release and the Supra has yet to be announced. I hope this info is true because Toyota is losing to Honda, Mitsu, Nissan(with the release of the GTR in 2006[confirmed]) and the American car manufactures in the sporty class. Toyota despretly needs to recreate the sport image they once had. I will try to post concept pics
And it will also consume the competion with balls of fire from it's eyes and bolts of thunder from it's arse...
Look man, I may believe it will have an available Turbo motor as an option, but I don't think it'll be all that. I don't believe road and track (they said the Scion line was going to pick up the Celica) Celica is a youth-oriented car, the kind of power you are describing would be more akin to an older MR-2 or Supra. I could see a Supra/Celica, like back in the day; A Supra powerplant in a celica chassis, but that seems a bit much these days. The "Hybrid" supra you speak of is actually a Lexus model entering production next year, it features a V6 gasoline engine and a Hybrid Synergy motor assist system (like the one on the prius) that makes the Engine/drivetrain perform more like it has a V8 engine under the hood, while still retaining the fuel economy of a small v6 engine. It is not a Supra (They wouldn't make the supra a hybrid, it's a prestige car!)
I doubt the celica will see an engine larger than 2.0 liters, Turbo may be an option on higher trim levels, and HP output will most likely be competitive with other makes out there (around 160 HP for base model- about 220 HP or so for higher trim levels).
250+ HP cars are in a different class than the celica (you're now competing with the likes of the 350Z, RX-8, and WRX STi, which is a job for the supra or possibly the MR-2S, not the lowly celica) If the Celica has a HP option that puts it in that range, then the price will be out of the range of the average consumer. Yes, maybe they'll make a GT4 again, but it definitely will be more expensive than other celica models by a significant margin. And considering the GT4 didn't do that well the last time they brought it to the US market, I doubt they will try it again.
good info rave, i know what you mean about a 250 plus hp celica, ppl on the whole wouldnt really want to buy one since price would go to close to the 30 k mark. what trd should do is maybe work on an engine that would fit the celica gt or gts that had 250 hp. not that i know too too much about imports yet (before my celica i had only driven american cars) but a broader amount of aftermarket parts is all we really need. if someone really wanted a 250 hp celica they could make it right now w/ Turbo and what not. maybe a celica w/ more room for mods would be best. a bigger front end and same engine out of dealership for the next generation would definitly make the celica very mod friendly!!
"Plans for Toyota to introduce a replacement for its Supra sports car are inevitable, according to sources. The rendering above is an indication of what such a twenty-first-century Supra might look like, but click the minimized magazine article (immediately below) for some real world shots of what may be the final result.
Hopefully headed for production (and the United States) in 2006 and likely based on the upcoming second-generation Lexus IS platform, the new coupe (which might get a new name) is said to be a modern interpretation of Toyota's classic 2000GT of the 1960s. Engines are set to be 3.0- and 3.5-liter normally aspirated V6s matched to a six-speed close-ration transmission.
The curvy, compact, all-new sports coupe is expected to be a direct competitor to the Nissan 350Z, which certainly has enjoyed a successful head start. The previous Supra was last sold here in the 1998 model year, by which time it, like the last-generation Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, had suffered dwindling sales as a result of high sticker prices and spiraling insurance costs. As Nissan has done with the 350Z, Toyota wisely will avoid expensive and complex twin-turbo engines for the new Supra, which should allow for asking prices in the $30,000 range."
Rave not to argue though, If Road and Track is right the celica would still be close(in power) to the GTS Eclipse, the Rsx-S and the most dreaded thing ever to happen to ricers the SRT-4. I do believe toyota already does make a 2.4 liter, maybe they will just add the 'charger? anyway the 7th gen celicas are too slow for the current sport compact car even the GTS is down 20-40 hp. Anything faster than this generation celica will be fine with me.

yeah, that 2.4 liter is gonne be on the scion TC also with the super charger by TRD is already made for it...so i heard form..tv or that auto show? i forgot
the srt-4 is faster.. given, but how much of a life span do you think those engines are going to have? i think 2 to 3 years from now they will all be on new engines and transmissions, and whatever else breaks down on that car. as a daily driver the srt-4 is a pile of crap. celicas are much more reliable and in the end they just look a lot better. a fixed up celica will definitly turn at least twice as many heads as the srt-4

2.4 at 160 hp supercharger making it 200...but it's still not going to be that fast.
