hehe... its owned by a member at NC.O named "Jersey Jay." Don't worry about it being an auto because it is still quick.

If that thing actually dyno's at 248, it'd be insanely fast for an auto. Woudln't be "slow" at all. That being said, I somehow doubt it puts down that much HP to the wheels.

even if it did (questionable--but quite possible)...it'd still be a lot slower than a 6-spd with the same setup.

wow a GTS auto with a Turbo...

Maybe that will run 14's finally. rofl I find it hard to believe that HP figure, that's a lot of boost on a GTS, and an auto no doubt confused

He's a douche for buying an auto, even if it had 400HP, it's still a 4spd thatsfunny

I don't care if it will run circles around me when I'm walking.

An automatic GTS is a joke for Performance shocked

And I doubt it would run circles around me, because that thing will just spin it's tires on an autox track :P

If you don't believe me Caleb, then you've never driven an automatic in a high demand traction situation

^^ guess not.

but i do know that in order to downshift, you must firt upshift.

i would think that during times of acceleration (upshifting) a car with 248 whp would more than catch up and still be ahead of you for the time it took to slow down for the turn.

but anyway, thats just for the sake of argument..it really doesnt matter thumbsup

running an automatic on an autox track would be interesting, because you wouldn't be able to control the location of the power as well.

I'd love to see a 240WHP FWD car take a turn after just changing into "1" and watch the tires go eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee thatsfunny

because an auto GTS is slower than a 5 speed GT.

If you intend to mod a car for Performance, as this person obviously did, then you are a moron if you buy an automatic. Some auto's are faster than manuals, but it kills the spirit of the driving experience.

i will never understand why people look down on auto's. some of the fastest cars in the world are automatics. an example is the AMG E55, it's the fastest production based sedan in the world & it's got a 5 speed automatic transmission. or how about Porsche's new Chayenne, it's the fastest production based SUV in the world & it's got an auto in it too. plus in an auto you never hear guys bitch & complain about mis-shifting on the freeway & blowing their tranny and/or their engine.

The reason that we bitch about auto's in our cars is that there is a MUCH bigger gap between manual/auto in the Celi than in most cars. The higher the powerband, the worse an automatic engine is. Think of where our powerband is spineyes

I don't care about the Performance, it's the spirit of driving.

Sure, in high end cars like that, and SUPER fast cars you need it because of the car.

In a celica, you don't need it. If you drive an auto, and your car is just a car to get around in, then no beef.

If you buy an auto, and you supe the car up with 30K worth of mods for Performance, what's the point when it's an auto. It takes no skill, no finess, and it ruins the driving spirit.

Well, I think that I'm halfway between the two. Above mentioned types of people.

I never planned on going crazy with Performance mods. I also never really planned on racing my car. I just wanted something faster than what I was driving, with a backseat and trunk, that still drove like a sports car. I easily met all those requirements with my auto GTS. I even thought about getting a stick, but I listened to everyone who told me driving 17k miles a year in traffic would be horrible.

I think it was only AFTER I got the Celica and found this site, I started to get into the whole racing/performance scene. So basically, I bought a car to meet the criteria I wanted then... but since then, what I wanted has changed. I think this is what happens to many of us auto GTS owners. It's not that we expected our cars to be ultra fast, it's that our taste has changed since we bought it.

None of those cars that you mention have a four cylinder engine with a powerband as high as ours.

I dont have a problem with auto. My car is an auto and i love it. Do i plan on modding it HELL YEA. But do i plan on dropping in a Turbo or nitro NO. I like my car for show and know what it can do. Im not goin to be that idiot next to you at the light revving his engine any time soon. But in the future i do plan on getting a manual. There is no one is better than the other just different needs for different users.
