deceasing weight kinda makes ur car faster and it's quite obvious ... but does tat means it loses grip ? if lets say i take out parts and rear seats to reduce weight ... tat would kinda help ~ but wat if, i have a kit with spoilers tat uses air to increase grip ... tat also means tat my car's 'Apparent Weight' increases right ? so ... i dun have a STRAIGHT FORWARD question but any thoughts ? grin

Reducing weight by taking out the back seats, spare tire/ jack combo, AC, trunk plastics, lighter battery or relocated, lighter wheels, and just lighter parts won't have any adverse affects to your car other than comfort or noise. Strip your car to the bare bones including carpet if you want and you will be faster. Most kits and most spoilers aren't for aerodynamics and racing anyways (giving you huge down forces). Just for looks. Remove what you want, unless your sweating, deaf in one ear, bruised ass passengers start complaining. Then just tell them to F**k off.

Not really. I guess it depends if you do have some sort of racing settup. What kit do you have?

dun have kit yet ~ dun have celica yet ~ grin lol

probably getting a gt 05 this summer or something ... i DO want a kit ... at least minor change of bumpers ... but i have NO idea of wat to get and so ...

if the kit increases Performance then i guess it's worth to pay a lil more in it ... if not then i will look for cheaper once just for slight change in looks ~

If your getting a kit for your Celica in the future just go for the best looking one to you. Those kits won't have any added Performance benefits, only looks. If you get a kit, spoiler, or whatever that is supposed to have better aerodynamics than stock, I'm sure you'll never see the difference on the street.

yeah...losing weight on your front tires (since celica is fwd) will reduce some traction, technically.

however, your car already weighs 2,500lbs...it's got plenty enough weight to keep its wheels on the ground...realistically lightening your celica as much as possible will only improve your times (lighter = less to push = faster acceleration even though technically reduced traction)

if you want better traction, get sticky tires ('soft' tires).

if you want downforce (virtually 'weight' when air passes over it) get front bumper canards or hood spoilers. rear spoilers help very little and for a celica they basically serve a style function although they do help when cornering at high speeds (if you autox or streetrace etc) by helping improve rear wheel traction)

but if you drag (or race straight line) then rear spoilers only hurt you.

this would be why you always see pics of my car and my wing but in the vids at the track its never on wink

I can tell you from experience if you take weight reduction seriously you will want a wing like the TRD wing for example cause your rear end will start to wobble at high speeds. but when you go to the track take it off.

also IMO if you are getting a GT then leave the interior in and buy the SF Turbo kit. then you wont have to worry wink

removing the interior on stock suspention upsets the weight bias, leaving more weight over the front tires, this doesn't allow the rear of the cars tires to receive sufficent load on hard cornering, and causes instability.

going in a straight line like drag racing its a good idea. ANY FWD car will benefit from weight reduction over and near the rear tires, but not so much over the front wheels, you need the weight for traction on the hole shot.

body kits have never been tested over stock, to see what downforce if any they add, so we really cant say.
