I have a black celica, and if anyone has ever had a black vehicle, you know how hard it is to keep clean. I wash and wax it about every week, sometimes every other week if I'm really busy. I was wondering what is the best way to get out swirls and to make it look "show car" glossy. Thanks!

go to an expert detailer to buff your car. if that's too expensive..wash, clay bar, and wax/polish...i sugggest zymol, maguires,etc...

meguirs scratch x helps out a bit.. but if you know how to use an orbital buffer good that should do the trick..

i remember my neighbor next door had some swirl marks on his new car.. so he had a guy from japan who's a pro at detailing for 20yrs.. full yellow jumpsuit too he wore in the process and spot lights on the car when he did it.. he went through tons buffing pads.. but surely got out the swirl marks and you could see urself in the shine thumbsup

also note flying out a guy from japan isn't for everyone.. then again he does have a black Murcilago happywink

you guys are suggesting clay bars w/o mentioning the harm it can do if not used properly...

"CLAY: Literally a plasticene/abrasive mixture used to smooth new paint and remove over spray. This type of product must be used with lots of lubricant. The technique of using a clay is a learned skill. Use too little lubricant, or get contaminants in the clay, and you have moved into scratch city. This is one product that is the fast lane to trouble if not used with extreme care. I do not recommend this product as a general paint cleaner. You literally grind off a layer of paint. Should be used as was intended, to remove paint over spray. "

just be careful thumbsup

It's weird but I haven't been able to find any clay bars at autozone, walmart or any other places that have car care supplies. Do they just not carry it in some places confused

yeah, I agree with the whole clay bar thing-it's abrasive-I may just have it buffed. Thanks anyway!

bought mine at pepboys but its is part of a claybar set it came with 1 claybar, 1 spraybottle of detailer(as lubricant) and a small bottle of carnuba wax to finish the job. the box said its good for cleaning 3 cars

Do not use a towel to dry your car. I use a shamois and do not have 1 swirl.

best way to get rid of swirls is to not put them there in the first place...

otherwise, you need a good carnuba wax to put on to cover most of it.

okay waxing in lines prevents swirls.

your swirls come from letting the wax dry too long.

about the clay bar being abrasive.
yes when misused it can be bad, howevevr if used according to the directions is of no harm to the car at all. it jsut removes teh dirt in the paint and all surface contaminants.

you can get a clay bar at any auto store here your can get it at walmart autozone pepp boys etc.

only clay bar twice a year. but because you have swirls you need to cleaner wax and i would not cleaner wax without first getting the impurities off of hte paint.

I always thought swirls were from fibers in towels scraping the clear coat. Ya learn somethin new everyday. Time to buy a clay bar and some good wax.

it is...i don't think swirls are from wax..never heard of it..

if you don't use the right mit or drying towel or ANY towel, you're going to get marks and light swirls...

100% terry cloth towel all the time
and wash your mit in washing machine after every use and keep two handy if it's real dirty..one for underneath, the other for other parts..

it's all common sense.
if you're waxing cloth isn't right, it'll leave swirl marks...

DO NOT buff yet...you'll regret later. It's still a relative new paint.
I'd say do not wax that often either! Just 4 or 5 times a year.
happywink

Try TurtleWax Scratch & Swirl Remover... works great, even on the headlight (removes watermarks)

yes it comes from teh towels but no matter how soft the towle is (i assumed he used a good towel.) if you let the wax dry too long it becomes hard and gest gritty when you buff it out.

also i am assuming that you are using multiple towels when yoru removing wax right.

Zaino Z-5, the results where nothing short of jaw dropping on my black Celica. Took nearly all of the fine scratches out of my paint, looks great even in direct sunlight.

Z-5 Show Car Polish is the only polish formula available that fills and levels minor surface scratches, swirl marks and spider webbing to create an optically perfect finish on your car.

I have a friend who use to be a detailer at a Mercedes dealership...He's going to POWER POLISH my car next week..This will for sure take out the swirls out of your car if you can get it done. It will make your car look like new. To prevent swirls make sure to use a soft mit with a good quality soap...and if possible wash you car in the shade. thumbsup
