Is the dash in the Celica designed to prevent things from sticking to it? I'm tried to mount the stand for my XM radio using all kinds of different substances and tapes. Nothing has worked. I thoroughly cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol, but it still didn't stick. I recently bought some 3M Heavy Duty Outdoor tape that's suppose to be weather resistant and hold up to 5 lbs (more than enough for the radio). Anyone else had any luck with a sticking things to their dash? I included a picture of where I'm trying to mount the unit.

This is the tape I've been using, and even it DIDN'T stick for long. I think that the sunlight isn't helping anything. But I figured since this stuff is "Weather Resistant," that would include sunlight as well. No good. It did, however, last the longest of any of the tapes I tried.

or maybe if you just sand the area where you're going to use some 3mm tape that should help with the adhesion and maybe heat it up too with a hair dryer happywink

I did the same thing w/ my XM stand & from the looks of the pic, in the same spot. The original 3M tape that came with it fell off so I bought the super heavy duty 3M tape. I also heated up the plastic for the stand and bent it a lil bit to kinda form it to the curve on the dash. It helps.

the surface isnt perfectly smooth, so nothing will stick to it...so you must sand it alittle bit to get stuff to stick to it (kinda like painting a car...) so just sand the area your going to stick the adhesive tape, then clean it with rubbing alcohol.

that should do the trick...

if you dont want to "ruin" the dash board, you can get a metal bracket and tape the xm to the bracket and open up your dash and place it within with some screws/tape...(magical duct tape) and that should work, if i get out this weekend ill take pictures of a bracket that would work... just go to home depot and ask them for brackets, they are usually by the shizzle for deck materials...

Try using some kind of Velcro that has some very strong sticky on it so you can stick a piece of velcro to the XM and the dash. Like you said already, it might not stick but worth the try wave

i doubt if the hardcore outdoor double sided tape didnt work..velcro will...its still weak glue on the sticky side of the velcro..same concept of the double sided tape..

oops..after typing this i just reread your post ^ and realized you said "it might not stick but worth a try"..being that the case...sure..you got nothing to lose thumbsup

A little dab of silicone sealant does the trick. It's hard to get all the residue off, though, when you remove the item.

I tried velcro. That actually fell off in the shortest time. So far that 3M outdoor tape is the best, and I'm not about to bust out a hot glue gun and make the XM radio a permanent fixture to my dash. Once I get the rest of my stereo system caught up, then I won't need the tuner anymore, therefore, no more problems!

Mine is not a Celica, but a 2013 Toyota Hiace. Any part of the dash is truly like it was Teflon coated. No gummy pad, 3M or other double-sided tape would even pretend to stick to it. It would simply just slide off. It's quite annoying. I have stuck lots of things on many other cars, including Toyota, and have never had this issue until this vehicle.

I have run into yet another Toyota will a non-stick dash; so here is my solution:

- Place double-sided tape on the dash, sticky side down, wax paper side up. Alternatively, cut and use a small piece of thin plastic..
- While holding the tape in place, drill two small holes through it, into the dash.
- Secure the tape with two small screws onto the dash. You may need to add another layer of double-sided tape.
- Peel off wax paper, and then stick the item you wanted to stick on the dash.

It may not be elegant, but it works.
