i can get av gas for much cheaper than regular gas (much cheaper;-) but i was wondering if anybody knows anything about it and if it is OK to run my car on it. gas prices suck
Of course its safe. Av gas is very high quality gas for airplanes hence AV= Aviation. Usually its 3 dollars a gallon and its 113 octane. Not only is it safe its better for your car in the long run as it will leave less carbon deposits inside your motor resulting in longer oil life and cleaner compustion lower emissions and whatnot. As far as the power benifits youll get from it well theyre negligable. If you were running under Boost you would be able to turn your pressure up. I dont know if youre into messign with your car but with av gas you could advance your timing some for more power but the fuel alone will do nothing for you that premium wouldnt. if its cheaper go for it.
20% of my dream car goal has been reached. I own the celica.
doesnt it also depend on compression ratios... as in the gt, premium is no differnt then regular, because the decreased compression ratios comapred to that of the gts??
The only type of avgas still around is 100LL... 100 standing for 100 octane, and LL for Low Lead...which means that it is leaded gas. The other differnece is that it is dyed blue. Dont know what the lead content will do to a modern engine, but I think that is oyur biggest concern. Red dye=80 octane Blue=100 LL Green=100 High Lead
well, hate to burst anyone's bubbles, but these little import cars from Japan are made to run on 87 octane-regular gas. (with the exception of GTS, which is to be run on 93 octane). Something you'll notice in GT's is the check engine light may come on if you put a lot of Synthetic Gas Treatments or Octane Boost into your tank-even if octane boost doesn't make that much of a difference. Just stick to what the Toyota Owner's manual says just to be safe!
not sure if this is true, but i heard the higher the octane the quicker and hotter it burns...therefore i would think that an octane of 113 would burn way too hot and be a not so good thing.
NO ITS NOT OK! Just for reference the reason i live in daytona is i goto Embry Riddle Aeronautical university - the biggest flight school in the country.
AV Gas (the most common being 100 ll or 100 octane low lead) has a MUCH higher lead content in them than average gas. deffinately not good for your engine. not a good idea.

i thought it was the other way around. when the gas has a higher octane it burns slower so it wont ignite too soon when you have the higher compression ratios.
