i'm trying to broaden my noobish tuning understanding. if i were to get an exhaust, but no Intake, does that stand to reason that i should lose horsepower? if so, how much? and, if i get an Intake without an exhaust, what does that do to the car's Performance? thx for the help...

rofl

You dont loose power if you buy an exhaust. Same thing with an Intake, you gain hp aslong as it's a name brand like AEM, Injen, K&N, Blitz. Intake lets the engine breath easier & an exhaust lets the engine exhale better.

really, thx.; so then i take it you don't have to improve both air flow in and air flow out at the same time right?

you don't have to. most buy one thing at a time 'cuz that's what they can afford. if you have the $ to buy both things, then that would be sweet, if not, just keep on saving up.

Intake and exhaust mods are fine by themselves but together they make for a powerful one two punch.

if you want to go all out go with the Intake and exauhst for the one two and headers for the knockout and then your whole airflow system will be top notch. just incase you where wondering what to go with. i am pretty sure most ppl would say a trd exauhst, aem cold air Intake, and dc headers for your gts when they come out. thumbsup

Agree, if you want to get the airflow in and out of your car a lot better, get Exhaust, Intake, Headers, Port and Polish on the Manifold, Polished throttle body, whatever you can do to help the flow of air go from the Intake to the exhaust, even different Intake filters make a diffence!!

A header is another name for the exhaust manifold, or the bottom half (kinda) of your engine.

Port and polish deals with the cylinders.

And there is such a thing as losing horsepower due to an aftermarket exhaust. Just stick with the name brands and only go custom if you know what you're doing.

A header is a type of exhaust manifold manufactured to higher standards to minimize back pressure and resistance to exhaust gas flow, thus increasing efficiency and Performance of an engine.

Porting and polishing is a procedure performed to the inside of the Intake manifold and cylinder head to smooth out the inner surfaces of these engine parts to minimize resistance to air flow, again increasing efficiency and Performance of an engine.

i'd start with an exhaust..cuz any Intake system is almost the same as stock..unless it's a cold air Intake n you drive at night..cuz i feel the diff @ night with my cold air it's faster than the day time.
