We have a 90 toyota celica and it had a blown engine... so we recently bought an engine out of a 92 MR2 same exact engine but the problem is there is a lot of the plugs and such that are in different places! but thats an easy fix to just take all the wiring and stuff from our motor. Also there is some plugs that i guess require a special tool ? Is there anyway around that and does anyone know what the tool looks like ? I heard that the 92 5sfe has 135hp instead of 130hp as well is there any truth to this ? Do we have to use the EFI from the 92 engine or can we use the 90's ? anything else you guys have to add would be great considering we have never done a front wheel drive car before. Also how do you take out the half shafts ? Anything that you think will aid in the motor swap would be greatly appreciated! thanx

well i have a 5sfe, and seriously if you were going to do a swap you should of bought a 3sgte, its much easier direct drop in. as long as its from a celica. anyways. everything on the 5sfe mr2 should be the same, so it should be direct drop too, seriously i am not sure, but soon ill be dropping in a 3sgte in my 5th gen 1991 celica gts, and yes the 92 does have 5 more horsepower. haha

how much did you pay for this new motor>?

It isn't brand new.. and its mostly a gas mileage car for now. The car was only $500 and its in really good condition but the motor was blown... we paid 650 for the motor which was one of the better deals we came across and we got to listen to the motor!

also since the motor came from a mr2 wont everything be backwards? i mean the mr2 is mid shipped and taking the midshipped engine to a fwd car wont it technically make all the cables and connectors on the opposite side? also if you need more info go here www.celica.net [celica.net] theres a 5th gen section that will be of a lot more help smile

No everything isn't backwards believe it or not! Its all the same except the MR2 fuel line is from the filter to the engine is longer so we just have to use ours.. and theres something else that is but we can easily change it! and thanx for the link i'll go check it out. I posted on www.toyotacelicas.com [toyotacelicas.com] but hasn't seem to help to much... it takes so long for someone to answer... much more ppl on this forum i figured i would give it shot!
