God Damn serpentine belt again! Just like with the second one it started squeeling like a pig when ever it rained, humid, or a little cool outside. Same old story, almost all of us have been through this.

But this time I tried belt dressing to see if it would help, hell no it made everything worse. Made this horrible grinding sound on start up and at higher rmp (above 3k). Got a lot of vibration in the pedal and wheel, think that goo was making the pulleys slip a bit.

So I took it to Craftsman Automotive (local VA shop I like) and they cleaned all that shit off the pulleys, put on a new belt, and made a few adjustments to the tensioner. Everything is great now but we will see how long this one lasts!! angry

Oh, and NEVER USE BELT DRESSING!!!!!!!!
wtf

Mine squealled like crazy for months. I bought a Goodyear Gatorback belt for like $35 at Autozone. Since I' put it on I haven't heard as much as a peep! There really is no other way to go if you want to fix the problem.

what did craftsman charge for the install? couldn't you have just adjusted the belt tensioner yourself to release any excess air (states so in the tsb's ed014-01 & eg010-03) before paying for. i'm gonna check to see if anything happens with mine (probably not but worth a try).

$37.17 parts
$60.00 labor (about 45min, there $80 an hour)

Well worth it in my opinion, I don't have the know how or the guts to mess with that type of thing my self. If you do more power to you. thumbsup

Not that simple nor would I do that myself. Keep in mind I jacked up the belt and pulleys with the belt dressing, so I added to the problem.
