my question is how much watt does my receiver have to be at least. i have an old kenwood 4 channel 400 watt total and i think it couldn't handle it what do you people think?

didn see this thread.. ill help you out. you need an amp with around 400rms power to power the sub for cleaner sound (the output should be a lil higher than the subs max so it can sound clean and so the amp wont overheat/struggle)

and yeah a receiver wont power a sub correctly, only speakers and that old kenwood you have isnt powerful enough, but i would use it, for those JBLs so you may need another external amp for the speakers. best setup would be one mono (bridged) amp for the sub and a 4 channel with higher power for all the speakers in your car.. good luck, post if you have any more questions thumbsup thumbsup

it doesn't matter what your receiver have in power. everything will be based on your amp. get a kenwood excelon 4 channel amp for your speakers, and 1 D-class amp for your sub. for sub, i would go with rockford power series, or MTX...
