I'm pretty sure the guy I'm buying it from said he bought it off a guy on the MR2 boards who was making 5SFE Celica headers. Can anyone confirm it's this same header?

Might it be the Aaron Fowler (or whomever) header from the MR2 board? I think he was "itztitz racing" over there or something.

Either way, congrats on the purchase.

It's header wrap. It helps keep the heat down.

Chrome would produce even more heat, just more heat for my Intake to absorb or inhale. Kind of defeats the purpose of a Performance part if it negates the effect of another. Plus this was the header made by an MR2 guy, there was no chrome option. Function before fashion.

That "ugly tape" is actually Fiberglass header wrap. It helps to keep the heat inside the exhaust system, which is beneficial for 2 reasons. 1, it will reduce underhood temperatures. 2, it will keep the exhaust gasses warmer and moving faster out of the system.

The only down side is that this extra heat can be hard on low quality metal (like the Pacesetter header).

That is probably a better option, but very pricey. Header wrap is maybe $50. Getting a header coated is probably 4 times that.

I can't argue that! But the looks are dramatically different, and it only has to be done once. You may end up wrapping a few times over the life of your car, depending. So it all ends up with how much money you have to spend and how pretty you want it to look. BTW...if you want some wrap, I got a roll new in the box, unopened and ready to sell as I am having my housing, manifold and downpipe coated and have no use for it. LOL.

I'm good on the wrap thanks. My friend is good cutting and welding metal, so I'm going to have him make me a heat shield. Sand down the header and paint it black with high-temp paint, re-wrap the header, then paint the heatshield with high-temp paint and put it all on.

HotShot tried to make one, but they dicked over my friend on it. Yet they still list the product on their website even though it's not even out of the prototype stage.

This was a long time ago this guy was making the headers for Celicas. I'm pretty sure he's stopped making them now. I'm buying my header used from someone.

u could get a stock 1st or 2nd gen 3sge header and it would work also you could use a header for a camry as long as you have a 2nd gen 5s 92-up 1st gen 5s i think you gotta do sumthing to it to make it fit...i dont remember what exactly but it wasnt major
