For those who know what i'm talkin about WELCOME!!!

This IS where you need to be if you've made it from celica.net! We will start it right up as if nothin happened.

Continue to discuss and again any questions you know what to do...since you've made it this far!

FYI I am here guys, just saw the topic that was addressed to me that was locked. Lol. Well I've got nothing right now, just waiting for word on the price to build the lambo hinges. Meanwhile I am working on a drive-by-wire system for the Starlet as well as finishing up the anti-lag system. Should be interesting!

BTW mods should loosen up here...yeesh. Haha

I'm here too. Not that i had much to do with this project. I'm still on C.net because there is more information there for sure. I hope that site doesn't go down the tubes because I'll need it if I ever attempt a 3S-GTE swap.

righty-OH, i just got out of my med study for 2 days, and will be recieving a nice check soon w00t!!!!

So i'm catchin up on this and so far we're waiting for Magik to get back to us on what the dude from DI's been doin and whatnot. When he does and if it got done properly we'll be having Whodi send the money (agian if more than $800 others will volunteer to chip in) and get Magik to buy the FIRST set of real 5thgen hinges. Once he's got'm off to Conrad.

Again just waiting to hear back from Magik on the DI half of this deal.

Good to see a few here!!

I don't think it really matters, I do that type of work all the time at my job. It happens a lot in the manufacturing industry, a lot more than you'd think.

Nice to meet you Ron, I will be making more of a presence on this board in time.

I hope Magik hasn't "Disappeared", anyway I been yappin with Twisted Images about there kit. Harry ( The one who built it) said he spent about 3 monthes ironing out the bugs so the kit would work properly. Now keep in mind that they started from scratch. He dropped the GB offer to C.net cause everyone that contacted him just kept asking for the files. As I stated on C.net, my Car club is forking out the money for my verts, so I'm not really losing anything. TI and our pres have talked and come to an agreement on a price for a kit. I should be on its way to my house this week. Now because I'm not putting the money out, and our club mech is doing the work to get it ready in time for a few upcoming shows, I can't send it to Conrad, But if there is anyway I can help you all when I get it, I'll be more than happy.
Conrad, if you need me to take pics it, measurement, etc let me know. I can hold the guys off for a little while, but if I stall to long when I get it the pres will start making calls to TI asking where the F*** its at.

This sounds promising to me. Couldn't a few pictures along with maybe a traced outline of the hinge give Conrad enough to make the files? I guess only Conrad will know for sure but I'm stoked. My door is off my car right now so I can take pics of it and measurements if that will help any.

dude conrad said himself from posts on c.net that he wouldn't use anyone else's measurements but his own because he doesn't want to make a set of hinges and them to be messed up because of calculations on false data. A lot of people have said they would take pictures of the door off their car... it would be useful to a lot of us but conrad probably knows how it looks already. Also, I asked conrad once if he would could make the set of hinges from scratch but he'd first need a 5th gen donor car and the time to do that. So yeah... read up smile

Anyway just wanted to check up i just went out for a ride on my friends Honda VFR and i am buying a bike soon probably a little kawasaki zx6 but i don't want to spend the money until i get magik whatever cash he needs first ...

Bingo. I'd like to see pics of it installed on a 5th gen and pictures of the hinge when it is functioning...that would help for visualization. But that's all I would use the photos for just to help visualize. I don't trust other people's measurements...as at my job I basically compare my results to other companies (our suppliers) and I find mistakes ALL the time. This is coming from other Quality Assurance Engineers who do this day in and day out. Haha.

So sure if you want to take some general photos of the hinge setup that would be great, otherwise anything else would be pretty useless.

oh man... i hope this "patience" factor pays off man. Seriously. I took a girl out on a nice date today after coming back from Mexico (don't ask, LONG STORY) and she said my car was "Cute" grin

That made my day. I just tried to imagine my car with an all-trac hood, lowering springs, lambo doors, and nice tinting all around. Would look killer and she would say it was "Hot" instead of "Cute." But for now, "Cute" sounds good enough for me.

I'm guessing the guys at DI probably know what we're gonna do with their hinges... That's why they would take their sweet time and make magik get another appointment. Plus they don't know how much it's gonna cost to make a set of hinges so they're probably skeptical about making some and then saying it's 1G+ dollars. I hope it's just $800 so Whodie could take care of it in one swoop (You Kick Ass Man!). After the hinges get made this will take off and it'll be smoothe sailing. Can't wait!

i highly doubt that DI has any clue as to what we have planned for the first set of hinges. There gonna, well for a lack of a better term; get 0wned by Conrad once he gets the hinges. So its gonna be fun!

My car has often been termed "sexy"

And...it's beat up. lol.
The front passenger fender is scraped up on the corner, dented in (the marker there is duct taped on, courtesy of the ex-gf who managed to PUSH the car into the pole by the gas pumps when she ran out of gas)
The hood is dented on the front, right by the headlight -- from a baseball bat. (also missing about 7 inches of the lip on the hood there)
Driver side door has been keyed, a small dent just above the trim.
Spoiler is chipped twice -- both right where it is split from the center piece to the passenger side piece -- from the previously mentioned baseball bat.
Back of the trunk lid is dented, from a truck, which also caused crackage down to the license plate.
Clearcoat on the roof has been peeling away.

Yet still -- it has been, on more than one occasion...considered "Sexy"
hehe.
Though I plan on fixing all this, doing some personal mods that I have yet to see on another 5th gen, and swapping a 3SGTE into it -- all when I'm no longer poor.../then/ we'll see about how sexy it is =D

Haha I can own them on my new CMM (machine that I am using to reverse engineer parts) that I am going to be getting at work. This is what it looks like: http://www.sheffieldmeasurement.com/cordaxe.shtml

BTW I will be going down to Dayton, Ohio again for work in a few months (for training on the new CMM) so I can meet some people in person and see how well the hinges work on the car.

Well, I got my hinges from Twisted images on Saturday. Dropped them off to get them sprayed today. Should have them on by the end of the week. The guys at TI are pretty cool. Once I get them back I'll take some pics and post them.

Unfortunately no, my hinges were purchased from TIECC, a company that was originally going to give C.net a group buy on 5th gen specific hinges. Mine were paid for by my car club for some upcoming shows, so I don't really have the option of sending them out for an unknown amount of time.

I haven't seen him here or at C.net. As for taking them off, well, that would lower my 1/4 mile time with the doors off grin but I don't think it will be too cool with the cops or the MPs here on post.

Well put your old hinges back on if you don't have them just go to a junk yard and pull them off. I guess you're our only hope. Post some pics of your new hinges and let us know if they close right.

Tommy is hopefully going to send me some pics and I'm going to see what I can do as far as reverse engineering them. Conrad is way more talented than I am but since the doors are off my car right now (I'm re-building after it being written off) and one of my best friends dads is a machinest I can hopefully figure something out. Don't get your hopes up though because I'm not an CAD expert and don't have much time.

bah, i sent him a PM and no word jus yet. I really hope that his ass didn't back out. If he did we'll jus have to go with plan B. That being we get a group to donate money to a paypal accnt and as i said before i would volunteer to by the 'banker.' I am in no way a person who would run off with anyones money. I have several people from cnet to vouch for that. I'm not an asshole.

so if it comes to that we'll buy some hinges and send'm to conrad for the jobby job! either way I WANT THIS DONE. it WILL get done with or w/o magiks help. Be it a pair made specifically for 5th gens (the easy way) or ones that need to be somewhat modified (the hard way)!

I'm still in this for the whatever haul. Tell me if sounds good to you guys!

Hey I got another idea. Tommy how about this. You take off the hinge from your passenger side door and send that one to conrad. If its a perfect fit I'm sure he can mirror the hinge to make the file for the driver side hinge. You don't really need to have both doors up at car shows. wink

hi there.

the wheels are not the 5-zigen, company called BSA here in the UK.

i orginally brought the RC/CS bumper and then the sideskirts but thought the bumper looked a bit dull against the side skirts so got the corners and extensions customized.

didn't really like the bumpers with the kit, also wanted it for the space for a FMIC.

well getting back on topic... it looks as if this project has died in the water which i hope is not so. TommyGT do you have pictures of your car with the vertical door kit installed on it? Post them if you have some grin. Has anyone tried PMing magik or getting in contact with him? I want to see this project completed and would like to put a set of hinges for vertical doors on my car. We need to revive this.

as bloodredgt has said it would be good to see this completed.

I would like to have a set on my one day.

isn't there a way of fabricating the exisiting hinge? wasn;t there a guy who brought the design off ebay? anyone know of someone with them on?

i got someone here which i can try to get some pictures off but no promises at the moment.

Well whenever you guys need my services I'll do it for you guys for free. I want to see this project go through but I'd rather avoid the politics and just deal with the Engineering aspect of it. So whenever you guys need me, shoot me a PM or email (conradandres at hotmail dot com) and we can go from there. smile

the thing about that tiecc.com is that what if the kit is not bolt on? We're trying to get magik a time slot. He might be able to get in this week.

Are those donors still in here? Wasn't there one donor who would donate $800 to this project and take the hinges for himself after conrad reverse engineers them?

I have a feeling we're just sitting on our asses doing nothing and i want this to change. We need to make this project go through. It'll make the celica community look more approachable. It would also give us some unique celicas to our respective areas.

it turns out magik has been held up not being able to get to Dayton Imports because of the fact that he ordered parts to be fabricated but hasn't had the money to pick them up. He's been tight on cash so it's kind of awkward if he shows up for a test fit but doesn't have the cash to pay for other parts, which would make any investor (dayton imports in this case) to not step forward and make a bolt on vert door kit for the car. As soon as he sums up $150 magik will be able to make it down to dayton imports and get a test fit to have the kit made. As far as what we can do... there's not really any option that anyone would step forward to do (which is pay for magik's part and hope that he would pay you back rolleyes which is kinda far fetched).

We are still in need of those donors to step forward for this project. I remember having a list of donors on c.net and i was on that list. I'm still up for my $50 contribution. As far as the others, i hope that they will still step forward.

magik has told me he will be able to visit dayton imports next tuesday for a test fitting. Maybe by the end of that week we'll have a set of hinges for conrad to engineer.

by aim. I've been talking to him and dayton imports for the past 2 days. Dayton imports happens to be willing to make a complete kit for 5th gens. What they don't know is that we're only gonna buy one set and send that to conrad to reverse engineer. He was thinking in investing to mass produce these. So I tried to make it clear that we wanted to see how well magik's turned out before he would invest in anymore (we don't wanna make dayton imports lose money, after all they're just helping us get hinges thumbsup). Can't wait for news of the test fit and the estimate price for the first kit he makes that we will purchase and send to conrad. It'll be smoothe sailing from there. It would just fall to everyone else's own responsibility to get their set of hinges, unless conrad can mass produce them for WAY cheaper than dayton imports. I think he might be able to get shocks for us pretty cheap.

hey hey! sorry fellow cnet crew, i hadn't been able to get on here for quiet a while cause my computer for some reason kept showing this site with absolute jiberish. No real text or anything jus wierd stuff.

Anyway, i've sent magik several pms and he hasn't replied but thats through cnet. Either way bloodred you been keepin tabs on the hole thing and i give mad props for that.

After the not beein here and whatnot i dunno if anyone is still comfortable with me bein the banker if needed. If there still needs to be some sort of donation i'll be down for $50. So that right there is $100 from 2 peeps on the board.

As b4 i'm more than pumped to see this project get done. After 7pgs at cnet and 2 here, this is actually getting somewhere. Though winter is nearing and the 'show' season is dying down, its def worth it. The savings and the happy ass 5th geners goin vert will be uber fuggin pimp!

Hey bloodred, thanks for mainly keepin this alive from cnet. Don't mean i don't appreciate the new eceli peeps.

Sorry for the long time no post. Uncle Sam had other plans for me the past week +. My wife thought it would be cool to get my hinges put on as a surprise when I got back. Believe me I was. Bad part is she didn't take any pics of the hinges before, and Dave, my club mech, didn't take any pics during installation. They did attend a show last weekend and there is a pic of the car on my profile. I am hoping to get the car out somewhere nice to take some other shots of it.

hopefully magik will get out of court and be able to head to dayton imports on tuesday. The odds are looking good right now but prayers are always welcome smile. He will be able to get test fitted and pick up his parts from dayton imports bringing us closer to our goal: cheap verts for 5th gens.

we still haven't gotten the brave donor who said he would donate $800 to our cause to step up again. You know who you are and there is no better time than for you to once again step up to the plate.

hey blood, that donor was Whodi, you can send him a pm he's posted here a few times. Don't know if he'd still put up that amount since its been so long since he offered and whatnot.

Def worth a try though!

ok guys, here's the deal: Magik has confirmed that he is going to dayton imports on thursday to pick up his parts. Here's what the catch is... we need the money to back up what we got planned. Whodi was the donor who said he would lay down $800 i believe but we're not sure if he's still down to do that since it's been monthes since he committed to doing so. We need to confirm that we have the money to buy the first set of hinges to send to conrad. Everyone do everything possible to try and contact whodie and if he can't step up with the money, if not then we all have to pitch in and we still need a banker. I still trust nvusgt to be the banker.

We can only hope that this goes the way we need it to otherwise it'll be a long time before we will get this done.

alrighty, well this seems just about dead. It's pretty much clear that we can't really rely on magik to come through on this so i think we have to get the hinges by other means unless magik magically get's the money to pay for all the parts he had DI make for him and pay for them. He won't even get a test fit because we don't have an estimate and the reason is because he won't get one... i'll try to think of something so everyone else think too.

mang that would be cool'n all, but we don't need a 'group buy.' that would mean a discount on prolly a big number of hinge kits for people to buy. The people that were lookin forward to this, are people who don't have the money even if a group buy was in place.

I'm not shootin the idea down nor telling you not to do it. Jus giving some input. See what you can do about maybe having him come down in price for ONE set of hinges. IF its reasonable, we'll all throw down, get'm and send'm off to Conrad to be duplicated!

i would like to ask tommy91gt to see if he could for 2 weeks be parted from one door without vert hinges. I'm sure conrad can mirror image the hinge and create another dxf file for the driver side after he's done with the passenger side. I know it's a sacrifice but it would be for the good of all of us. I'm guessing that Conrad could probably sit down and create files within a couple of hours and shipping would take the most time unless it was overnight shipping. Most everyone on here wouldn't be able to pay for the hinges.

IF whodie bought a set of hinges from twisted and sent those to Conrad that would be a plan too. Otherwise i'm fresh out of ideas.

Convo I had with Magik
icE0677: Hello! Are you there?
ElSuperSpic: sup
icE0677: magik06 from c.net
ElSuperSpic: sup
icE0677: ur the only one that i could reach that was interested in the lambo doors
icE0677: anyways i got my parts from DI and they arent going to do the hinges for us
ElSuperSpic: yeah..
icE0677: cause they wont make any money off one set
icE0677: while we go make knock offs
icE0677: so if you could relay that to the guys on everything.celica
icE0677: my account doesnt work over there
ElSuperSpic: dude did you tell them we were going to copy them?
icE0677: no
icE0677: someone else did
ElSuperSpic: But they knew about our plan?
icE0677: ya
icE0677: im friends with the owner of di
icE0677: and i picked up my parts today
ElSuperSpic: parts for what?
icE0677: turbo
ElSuperSpic: oh i guess were skrewed
icE0677: i asked him if he was still planning on making my hinges
ElSuperSpic: yeah..
icE0677: and he said " no, cause those guys are just going to buy one set and make knock offs, and thats no money for me .
icE0677: and he could make more off of neons and civics
ElSuperSpic: ok ill tell him
Pretty self explanitory...I guess the only option we have is with tommy. frown

The whole issue for the community is cash. Either no 1 has it or no 1 is willing to pull it together. It's not cost effective for me to pull one of mine off. The kit I have can be purchased for 1300 and I can get it for cheaper. Everyone wants a kit that cost like $50. You get what you pay for. People complain cos there are no parts for our cars and then when they come around they bitch that they cost too much. People say "well you can get a kit for 500 for a civic, why can't we?" Well, actually they can. That 500 Honda kit also fits a celica, a Tahoe and a M3. Its a universal kit. It will fit anything if the right mods are made to it. But that 500 kit is going to run you close to 3g's to get it put on your car. So you still have to bring a lot out of pocket. THe kit I have is a direct bolt on for the 5 th Gen, that could be put on in a persons garage at home. But until the community can get the cash together to send Conrad a set to do the files on this will all be talk for most of them. What most of them don't realize is once you get the files you still have to get a shop to cut them. For those that work at one or have connections it won't be too costly. But those that have to go thru the YP's looking for a place it is still going to cost them a nice chunk to get them made an they are still going to have to put them on, if they can.
