I was wondering how durable our tranny's are??? I have an 03 GT 5-speed, and I don't drag race, and have never mis-shifted, or grinded, and I was wondering if our tranny's (with changing the clutch and flywheel of course) are built to last as long as our engines??/ I guess this one goes out to the people with a little more mileage on their celicas...I've had mine since last october (bought new), and I've already got over 25,000 miles on it...I figure I 'll probably have to change the clutch and flywheel in about another 9 months or so at around the 50,000 mile mark( maybe premature, but I'll feel better knowing that I have new parts in before I REALLY REALLY need them)...but from your guys experience, should I start saving to have a new tranny put in later on to make sure my celi keeps going???

...SWEET!!!!...that's the kind of input I was looking for. Have you ever had any problems with the synchros making a grinding noise, or anything of that nature, that you had to have the dealer look at?

...I've not heard of that before (being isolated to JUST the 6 speeds), but from what I see on here from time to time it makes some sort of sense

GT is a solid tranny, GTS is not.

Let's put a FRAGILE tranny in a car that requires hard, high rev, fast shifts. rolleyes

i have a gts 6 speed and it grinds just about every time going into second when i'm racing (so only at high revs) but never at any other times or gears. i figured it was a syncro. how much would this cost to fix? or does the whole transmission need to be replaced now?

it's VERY costly and time sonsuming to replace a synchro.

Just replace the whole tranny. While your at it, get the updated gate so this won't be a problem anymore.

downshifting is bad for you clutch anyways, if your under 30mph just use the brakes, and hold the clutch in if you are going around turns or somethin, its bad to downshift everywhere

there is a good portion of us with the earlier celica gts that had transmission problems and needed syncros replaced.

my clutch wasn't disengaging and would grind when put into 2nd. this of course burnt my clutch out prematurely and caused the transmission to be replaced.

thanks for the original toyota warranty still in effect.
