This is strange. I went to the dealership to get a routine 3K mile oil change, and everytime they put the sticker with how many miles until the next oil change.
Well this time, instead of putting the next oil change at 3K miles they put it until the
Next 5K miles. Do you think this is a discrepancy, or is my next oil change in the next
5K miles. I currently have 103,000 in my car now.

if you use synthetic oil you can go 5k instead of the typical 3k...i don't know why he would have put 5k with regular oil (if this was the case), maybe he looked at the odo wrong?

typical maintenence servers for toyota cars are every 5k miles, while vans go at every other 5k or something like that... i forgot. because i have the toyota passport package where my oil changes and maintenence are prepaid and it says in the book you're only supposed to go every 5k miles. this shit bugged me too and i never bothered asking why it was every 5k miles. anybody else got the prepaid package deal?

That's the problem with dressing up a car. Its great to look at them & a celi is worth looking at. BUT, if you can't drive the thing, you have wasted your money because Celi's are made to be driven!

If your just gonna look at it, dress up a Tiburon. grin

Well, if he read it wrong, then that is a very dumb tech because you cannot mistake 102,389 with 105,000. I dont think they used synthetic. Damn now I am al confused.
Ive taken my car in at the same dealership for 2 years and they always write 3K now they wrote 5K.??? But I think Im going back to get the next oil change at 3K miles just to be safe.

^^

according to that article, oil should be replaced at

7,500 miles
15,000 miles
22,500 miles
30,000 miles and so on in large increments.

(7,500 mile increments). shouldn't oil be replaced smaller increments than this, though?

^^ i think the less you are able to use a car the better--the longer it will last and IF you plan on selling it one day, the more $$ you will get for it.

i do understand your point though, haulin_a_doo..i just don't necessarily agree with it 100% thumbsup

To each his own. thumbsup

Cars are a very poor investment. I prefer to own the car & not have it own me. I might think differently if I had two cars, one to shine & one to drive. Then I might get into it.

i purchased the celica with 2 things in mind
its a dailydriven car and a show car
i try my best to keep it in mint condition, my needs for my car is way different from the needs of someone who bought the car to use to go to work. my car does take abused so dont think that i bought the car just to look at.
iam just more cautious on how when and where i use my car thumbsup
so as i mention if your car is used for daily and take some major abuse(ie goes to bad road conditions etc) and or has high miles, its best to do it every 3k but as for me(with a brand new car) and other show cars i am kool with taking it in every 5k cool

sometimes, its actually cheaper to get another person to change your oil...coupons are in the sunday paper every week...not uncommon to get 5 quarts of oil plus a filter plus labor for $13.00--which is cheaper than doing it yourself.

Yes, but you can never be sure about the quality of the job they do. I'd never let anyone change the oil on either my Celi, or my wife's car.
