ALL of the 1.8L celicas come stock with 180hp. I dont think there is one that has 200 that doesnt have any type of aftermarket parts. (Cold air, exhaust...)

The GTS is the top of the line Celica. The year 2000+ series only have 180HP stock. And the GT only has 140HP stock. So i dont know what your friend has. It might be an older Celica i dont know much about those.

All manufacturers use crank horses, so if you want to compare car to car on the lot, thats what you have to use.

well yeah, it does sound better and dealers do exploit that...but shame on the person who doesn't know any better, that's their fault. Like the kid who looks in a car mag and sees an evo8 putting out 240 at the wheels and so he thinks if he buys a GTS with "180" and puts in a 75 shot he will beat the evo8!! hahah...no way.

I know the GT4's put out a lot. They're 4WD Turbo's(?) but aren't available in the US, nor in the 7th Gen body redesign.

euro edition is either 190 or 195. thanks to our programmed ecus that qualify to the "emissions" and 91 premium gasoline. in europe and asia, you can find 98 octane easily, and the ecu is programmed a little differently.

In europe, we have the CELICA T-SPORT. Here are some FACTS, from toyota's own webpage:

Engine: 1.8 16v VVTL-i
Cylinders: 4
Valve mechanism: 16 valves DOHC
Maximum effect: 192hk at 7800 rpm
Maximum torque: 180nm at 6800 rpm
Bore&stroke: 82.0 x 85.0
Compression: 11.5:1
Top speed: 225 km/h
Fuel: 95 octane
Weight: 1140kg (40 more than the european gt)

Hope that helps.

And all european gt's (simply known as "celica") have the 6 speed manual transmission as standard.
