i saw this tc at school today. i also wanted to know why everyone is hating on the tc. its got a great value, powerplant, interior. not to mention all the stock parts. the only reason i see you could hate it is because you dont like the styling, or the weight.

That's right, I don't like the styling, or the weight (hence, the handling). Its not a Celica substitute; its basically a cheap Solara.

weight can almost always be reduced though. things can be tuned to increase the handling ability. every car needs work in some departments.

I've seen one first hand for now. I like it. So Toyota f***ed up on the Celica in many many ways. Who cares if the Scion carries the same Camry engine. I'm sure the engine that could will now get a lot more support than our Celicas are getting. Our Celicas as collectors cars, forget it, unless you have an original everything in pristine condition 30/40 years from now. There will be no mark up only a decline for re-sale. That leave's pretty much everyone out. Sorry. New, better, cheaper, faster, better MPG, better handling, braking, etc. cars come out every year. Live with it. You can never keep up with computers or cars.

That is very true in all respects, and I will have many more cars than my Celica (which is my 38th vehicle) but the Tc won't be one I'll buy. I just don't like the styling. Thats MY perspective. I hope everyone who buys one loves it, but its not my taste. my .02

i forgot to mention. i drove one at the local toyota/scion dealership. it has surprising pick-up, and it handles pretty well. the interior is fairly spacious, even with the dealership guy in the back middle seat (he was a slightly larger fellow). the dealer, who is also a toyota dealer, said that he couldnt imagine why anyone would buy a celica when a tc is available. i can. the celica is definately sexier, but imo, the tc looks pretty good, what with the bmw headlights, the windshield that looks like it keeps going to turn into the hatch window, and how you can draw styling cues from many many different cars. grin

That's the main grudge I hold against it also.
rofl

I don't like the styling either. If Toyota wanted to gear Scions towards a younger crowd, why not make them faster?

Have you really looked at it? It looks like a chopped RSX! spineyes

Its got the powerplant, but that doesn't mean anything cause hp is to the flywheel. The thing is not light! I'm pissed mostly because Toyota discontinued the Celica and MR2 so they could push their Scion vehicles. The commercials make it look like a sports car when really its an economy car.

If you like it really, go buy one. A friend of mine is getting an xB and i'm trying to talk him out of it. ohboy

i think they are nice car.
but there is nothing special about the car.
its not like its fast or saves lots of gas.
and the price isn't as great as xa or xb.
i wouldn't mind having one, but i wouldn't choose it over other cars.
and i saw it in person many times, and its just plain looking in my opinion.

people forget that it's a 2.4L engine with a low compression (even lower than a GT)...that means this thing can be boosted. yeah it's porky at 2900lbs. but the TRD super charger is expected to reach 200hp with 200lbs. of tq. not bad since i assume they would set the psi low at 6-7 for longevity. i can't imagine how the thing will perform when booosted higher. Turbo companies are already working on kits for the car...so this year alone it already has a suspension package, CAI, exhaust, and a Turbo and supercharger on the way...

...too bad it's not RWD. that would be great thumbsup

scion is going thru different perspectives in their designs and stuff. i wont be amazed to see that they come out with a Turbo charged car. there are only three so far...there's still room for improvement.

weight problem solution: take out unneccessaries for speed (i.e. back seat) money problem: can be partially solved by selling the parts you took out.
