I just got my alarm installed from Best Buy yesterday, and when they gave me my keys, I got ready to go, then I noticed the SRS light was on. I asked the tech about it, and we tried disconnecting the battery for a while, but that didnt do anything since the alarm came with a battery backup. So I made an appt to come back and have it checked today. They ran an inspection of the install of the alarm, and they said that the install had nothing to do with the SRS system, and that it is probably just coincidental that the light came on. I think that is bullshit. They dont want to pay to have it turned off, so I have to go to Toyota to have them test why its on (that costs $75), then pay for them to fix it. If it is something caused by the people at best buy, they will talk to toyota to see whats up, and if they should pay it. They said that if the sensor just went out, they wont pay it. I think they should have to pay it since it came on under their services. What do you guys think about it, and what should I do?

SRS= Airbags...Supplemental Restraint System

Better get that shit fixed and have Best Buy pick up the tab. Sounds like a connection could have been severed, or a short occured somewhere.

Check the #8 fuse in the junction block that is on the right side of the center console. That fuse deals with the SRS.

Also, did they poke around under/around the driver's seat, or glove compartment?

if it was to happen, it happened. you cant really blame best buy if it wasnt really their fault. i work at a shop and right after i added oil on a car, the CEL came on. we scanned it and it was EGR valve. nothing that i should be blamed of. so this is wut you do. you talk to the best buy supervisor and tell them wut happened. just tell him that you personally will take it to toyota dealership urself and have them check it. if toyota says its cz of the sound system installation, best buy will be responsible, or else you will.

Yeah they say that its impossible because they dont even touch the SRS wires. I just think its messed up because, I think it should be...
light not on... goes to best buy... car comes out with light on... = best buys fault = best buy pays for it.

like i said, something similar happened to me. it wasnt my fault for the CEL coming on just when i filled oil in the engine. like i said, take it to the dealer, if they blame it on the stereo installation, tab goes to best buy or else you have to pay for it. thats the fairest thing you can do. it could be something small like just an airbag sensor or else could be the whole system(good luck with that)

stefanoc - yeah thats what I did. I talked to the GM and he said just go to toyota and if its their fault, they will talk to toyota to verify it and see what needs to happen. I was very disappointed in the whole alarm installation experience there. They lost the little metal sleeve that fits in the a/c knob to make it fit tight, they left the car a mess, and there were clips that werent put back on. I know there is a check list he goes by, and he didnt do a few of the things on the list. Then he lied to me. He said (after the second check of the wires) that when he started the car the light was off, then when he took it outside, the light came back on when he restarted it out there (I asked him if he was sure it came on AFTER he took it outside, and AFTER he restarted it out there). The reason I know he lied is because I looked in through the window before he took it outside, and I saw that the light was still on. I dont know what the point of him lying about that was, but I didnt like it.

Is that in the car, or under the hood?

if they really screwed up or installation, you should have complained to the GM for the missing parts. tell them you wouldnt pay extra money for "PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION" if you know that was called professional.

Damn. That would have been the easiest solution to the problem.

Take it to Toyota and have them trouble shoot it all.

If it turns out that an SRS connector became unplugged, then Best Buy is most likely to blame, especially if it's in the cockpit.
