hey. I got a question, Any one heard about the Turbonator or the spiralmax? They have the ads saying supercharge you car with gains up to 35hp and 31% mpg.they say you install it in the air Intake. It cost 69.95$. Anyone knows about it? Has it? Is it even good for your car? It seems sketchy how the ad is.

i heard the wind tunnel was pretty good it looks like a Turbo spool an you put it in your Intake and it sucks air like a Turbo and forces it into your engine...i dunno

that brings up a question i'm sure has been asked before.

what is keeping us from rigging up a high Carbon FiberM 12v blower somewhere in the Intake?

ever heard of the torNado? that's just about the same crap, it'll only save you gas because it acts as an air stopper..but gaining hp?...i don't think so.

uh, none of those things work. they might make a bowl of water swirl but they wont give you more power OR better gas mileage.

all it that is is a Turbo type piece that goes into the Intake system. As air is sucked into the engine the pice begins to spin. The spinning creates a Turbo-tpye of force induction into the Intake system. Although it works like a Turbo it will only add like 3 hp if your lucky. And at low RPMs it will block airflow, decreasing your HP. The product is definately not worth it, its just like having a Turbo that kicks in at like 8000 RPM, only gives you a HP gain in the real high RPMs

it wouldnt even do that much. think about it.

whats the best type of induction? a short str8 path right? now take that efficient path and throw something in the way. just because the air being sucked in is making this piece spin doesnt make more air. it simply causes the path of air to be obstructed. why would you want that?

a local tv news station did a product test of all the most popular types of these devices. they all had one thing in common, they SUCKED. not a single one made power or showed better gas milage over stock. they are a scam.

The product hes talking about is crap. What they are is basically a fan thats in your Intake. At real low speeds it wont do anything and at high speeds it actually slows things down. They do make these that are high quality super fast fans but they still only give like 3 hp.

on the subject of sketchy superchargers...

checkin' out magazines yesterday i saw this ad in the back of Turbo and some others for an "electric supercharger" stating it adds 1 PSI.

and i was like, hmmm, one pound of boost for like $300+ rather than the $5k or so that a belt driven supercharger goes for.

think the website is electricsupercharger.com any feedback 'bout this?

Let me explain why this "fan" is not going to work.

"FAN" aloan CANNOT create pressure (boost).
Instead, fan increases flow (velocity) of the moving air by transfering rotation energy from the fan blade to the air mass. With basic fluid dynamic theorem (Bernoulli's), faster moving fluid has lower pressure than slow moving fluid.
Hence, a "compressor" need a "diffuser" to slow down the fast moving air. With proper design, the diffuser convert the energy in fast moving air to pressure with smallest amout of loss as possible. While the pressure is built up, the molecule of air are packed closer to each other. This is how compressor pack more air into the engine.

Electric or belt driven "fan" will not increase pressure (boost) in your Intake system, unless something obstructs the flow of the air. Since the air is moved by the vacuum inside the cylinder, the fan is pretty useless.

Here is a pic of diffuser.
It consists of straight vanes and a set of flow straightening radial vanes at the circumference. The diffuser does not rotate. The compressor blade in the middle does.
