For all those with a 2000 GTS, when you turn your key to "on" position, everything lights up like CEL, brake, oil, etc. Does your ABS light up also?

I was assuming everything is suppose to light up for few seconds when you turn the key to the "On" position, but the ABS never glows at all. I wonder if this is a problem or not.

Damn, I seriously don't know. The dealer told me that the ABS doesnt light up because its the later model and it isnt using the same electronic machine like the 01+. And they say that you dont want it to light up because if it lights up that means its not good. Well, yeah.. Who wouldnt know that.. thumbsdown

Damn, If i reset my ECU will the ABS light up or will it just stay off?

Right now, I think that it doesnt have the ABS. Those dealers are kinda retarded when they told me those bunch of crap.

Seriously, same thing happens to me. The damn dealers say I have ABS, but the light doesnt go on when I turn it on. It just has that spot for it. Plus in dry and wet ground my brakes have skidded and locked I guess. So Im sure that all celicas have the spot for the light, but all dont have them.

You and I own celicas without the ABS, which is a real bummer.

sorry to hear that falk. Glad youre ok thumbsup

How fast do you need to be going before you slam on the brakes? When you slam on the brakes, is the ABS thing going to light up?

If you're around any place where you have the chance to drive over some ice, that might save your brakes a little (don't go fast over the ice, as you don't want to crash after finding out if you do or not! tongue )

And I'm not sure if the light will come on, but you should feel it in the pedal.

If you slam then goping 10-15 on loose gravel that should help too. I was watchign a show on ABS they said you really should "Test" your ABS every few months to keep them in workign order.

Bring it back...Toyota is full of CACA!!! My celica is a 2000 model manufactured in 08/99 car number 750...You can find out from he sticker on the drivers side...anyhow this means that my celica was pretty much the early ones built...So if mine lights up...yours should light up too...Toyota gave you a cheap a$$ excuse...ask them "why in the hell would they have the ABS light there if it dosent work?" and if they tell you something like ABS doesnt light up because its the later model, then reply...OOOOOOOHHHHH MUST BE USED FOR THE GT... rofl

Youll know if you hit the abs cause it will be loud when it releases your brakes ad youll get a quick jerk.

You can take your car to the toyota dealer and they can run the VIN for you. They will be able to determine if you have ABS or not by the VIN. My 2000 GTS doesn't have ABS either. frown

Thank God for ABS! Unitll yesterday I was always unsure if I had ABS or not. I was reading this post the other day and it's kinda funny/ironic that I had a chance to find out... I was driving down this local street yesterday going to a meeting which I was late for... so I was trying to get there as quick as possible. I was looking in my side mirror to change lanes and the dude in front of me (a big old truck with those old looking taillights) suddenly slams on brakes because of a yellow light, and I was like holy shit!! I slam on my brakes and I felt my brake pedal sorta vibrate and it made a muffled "grrrrr" kinda noise. It's pretty amazing how fast ABS stops your car. I was a few inches away from hitting the dude in front of me. But ABS saved my ass...Thank You ABS!!

I slammed on my brakes one day, my car skidded on the road, that is how good GTS brakes are, to be able to stop a car doing 55mph on a road and have it at a dead stop right when the yellow light turns red

They could very well have the ABS light there, but doesn't work...I have a 6-speed GTS...and i still have the lights for what gear (PRND2L) the car is in that only functions in automatic transmissions. The gauge displays are the same.
