cleaning AEM INTAKE

i just took my k & n filter out to be cleaned...i watered it and made sure gravel and large piece of dirt were out. i noticed the filter part used to be red.. now its all black.. is this all i do to clean out the filter?? help plz

it goes like this:

shake off any large particles of dirt
rinse from the inside out
let dry
then spray with K&N filter oil

How often should the filter be cleaned?

every time you see it is dirty enough to be cleaned. I would clean my K&N air filter on my quad after a certain period of time or if I rode in some heavy dirt.
