Yeah my celica has been in the shop for about 2 months and they finally found a used engine for my car. It is gonna cost about 4000 to get the engine and install it with a new clutch package. What do you guys think, does that seem like a good deal. It is an engine with 40k miles on it, which my car has about 70k on it now.

I had a few questions about other stuff, i am gonna be tryin to make it as stiff a ride as i can, what are some of the best things i can get to make it stiff.
Does anyone think that getting like a cheap cold air Intake on ebay is really different than getting like an AEM Intake that cost like $250 bucks compared to the cheap ones that are only like $75?

Just a few dumb questions... want to know what ya think.

4000 for the engine and the install and the clutch install...sounds reasonable...NO EBAY Intake!!!!! and as for stiffness, I assume you are talking about the ride quality (suspension)...go with KYB AGX's...they are adjustable and you can set your car as stiff as you want

4000 bucks doesnt sound too bad including labor..if you searched on car-parts.com you can find a used 00 gts motor and tranny for about 2-2.5K and a new clutch would cost you around 300-400..so yeah it doesn't sound too bad with labor.

well the right lowering spring and shock combination can make the rider stiff..but if you really want the absolute BEST way to give you a good ride and nice handling go with a full coilover setup with adjustable dampening. that way, you can adjust the ride height to whatever you want and set the dampeners to the stiffness or softness of your choice.

$4000???

What is wrong with your engine?
bent valves?
Just get new valves and springs.
and/or get other pistons + crower rods to replace the parts.

I think rebuilding your (old ?) engine should be cheaper than $4000..

Or don't you have your engine anymore?

Yeah same here with me...i downshifted to and missed a gear and my engine started to die out...brought it to the dealer and diagnosed it and they said something wrong with my 3rd cyclinder, it has no compreshion and was misfired. Now my engine isnt running smooth. if i change my pistons and valves do you think it can fix this problem?

well see apparently when i downshifted and the rpms went through the roof it blew the oil pump and blew the clutch out at the same time. That is what the dealership told me that i took it to, they said that with the oil pump shattering into pieces that it would of been more expensive to fix it than to get the used engine. which has 44k miles on it and is 2500. The other 1500 is for labor and the clutch and all new fluids and that stuff.

Thanks for the suspension info, i was thinking about going with coilovers too. I have a friend with a jetta that has them and his ride is very tight i love the that feeling.

Do ya know of any good deals on them maybe?

Hmm.. well it all depends on what is wrong with the cylinder i woudl think.. Because if something made it go eggshaped or anything then the only way to fix it woudl to bore it out with new pistons and stuff. But take it someplace and have them see, somewhere that you know will them you an honest opinion.

I am sorry to hear that ya misshifted but it is nice to hear that im not the only one. When i first posted something about a month ago about doing that and i asked about warranty and stuff. About 10 people like jumped all over my ass about it saying that i am stupid and need to learn how to drive and take responsibility and shit. It was really stupid.

how about this ... will verify for shure later but anyways ... from what I heard at a local Toyota dealership around my area ... the newer Corolla engines might be a possible replacement for a done in Celica GT engine as most of it all is the same stuff internaly .. just replace the cpu with the gt's & it will suposivly make the corolla engine funtion as a Celica GT's would ...

I've always beleived that the GTS engine's out of the Matrix XRS's where able to go into celica's & now this might be a possiblity to prolong the life out of the now discontinued Celica's ...

or imagine this possibility with some slight modding ... Celica with the Matrix's awd system & maybe even paired up with the gts engine to boot ...

I knwo the Corolla Rally car's toyota has in the rally's now are all wheel drive & 250 hp engine's in them ... makes ya wonder how a Celica would be if it could be modded to a simular setup .. hmmmmmmmmm thumbsup
