I was quoted a price of 6400.00 for a flip paint job by the same garage that did the car below.

I wondered if anybody is good enough to put that color (or as close as they can get) onto a Celica with the Veilside 1 and 2 bodykits. Sorry the picture is so small, but you get the idea.

thats way to much unless the paint job is perfect. You'd almost have to have someone who knows paint check the car out after it has been painted. Paint is known to shrink after it's been painted. So after a month or so your car could probably be wet sanded and buffed again. Also you do not want any dirt or runs in the paint at that price either. I paid 4k just to have my car shot with a stock color and I did all the body work and sanded the car. I's a lot but there is no dirt, runs and the clear coat is like a mirror. Some extra pearl was added to the base coat and covered with a glamor clear coat. I would go to a local paint supply store and get tips on various paints and new products. I personally think color changing paint is over rated. Also paint you car with a paint that you'll be able ti fix later on. Thats why I prefer only base/clear nothing fancy...flakes, tri coat pearls are hard to fix without paint half the car. So keep in mind you might be able to pay the first time around but will you be able to fix and be able to pay later.

Chameleon paint is only for big body Benz's or other big sedans on 20"+ chrome rims.

but they look nice on those.

The paint alone is 1500 a litre. And thats pounds not dollars. 6400 must be about $11,000. They're the best that there is in the UK though. I doubt I'll even do it, I was just interested thats all. The repair shop doing my Celica have sprayed the drivers door, rear three quarter panel and roof. It was difficult to tell what sort of job they did because it was covered with dust again when it went back into the workshop. If its a crap job when its all finished and the insurance won't re-do it, then I'll be going for a full re-spray, maybe even a flip.

Another flip I think would look awesome is A Red/Yellow/Gold

chameleon wont look good on the celica...not even the latter combo you quoted...and yeah 6.400 pounds is outrageous...you'd be better off buying the chameleon from a distributor here in the US, and having them use that...it would end up much cheaper

yeah, imo color shifting paint is too costly to be placed on an everyday driver. thumbsdown should anything ever happen and the car needs to have a portion repainted to fix an area, you're looking at a major part of the car that's going to have to be blended, even with that being done, there's a really good chance that they won't be able to get the flop to be exactly the same as the previous time it was painted. but if you're going for a show car, and aren't going to be driving it but off and on trailers, i'd say go for it. thumbsup

I wouldnt say thats a bad price for a good painter. I know painters in new york that charge like 5000 for a regular paint job. seeing as how expensive that paint is i wouldnt doubt the 11000.

I personally dont like the chameleon paint. Your car will always only look half good in any given light.

JBing, I thought it was a reasonable price too, considering they guarantee a factory finish or they'll do it over again.

I saw my car today out in the daylight though, and although its not polished up yet, the paintjob seems to be first class. Its been moved to Toyota for the leather on the seat to be stitched, and even the head of repairs in Toyota said the job they've done on the bodywork is impressive. When it came in he didn't even realise the side of the car had been ripped to pieces.

Coincidentally there was a Celica there with a Veilside EC1 body kit and it had had a silver pearl respray, which reflected a purpley color from certain angles. IMO it looked SHIT! I wasn't that impressed with the body kit either. Theres probably only a handful of Celicas in the country with the kit, which would make my Celica unique, but it looked cheap and toy-like.

I'm gonna stay away from OTT kits like Veilside. Any opinions on what to go for? Theres a Celica on this site with a TRD kit on 19s in a custom red and theres a picture of it on APRs website. I think something like that will be my aim.

For now though I'm gonna just drop it on a nice set of split rim 18s and sit back and cringe as my insurance premium goes through the roof.

Maybe instead of getting outdated chamaeleon paint you should get a heavy fleck metalic. The black 2004 jetta GLI and the black Scion TC have this kind of paint and it looks great in person.
