whats up guys.

OK heres the deal.. I just got 2 more 12" he2 fosgate subs. so now I have 4 of them. I went to the local audio store and the told me to get rid of my 300 watt jbl amp (which is powering 2 of them.other two arent installed yet)and get a bigger amp.. a 1200 watt. So I find one on sale and the guy there said to get 2 1200watt amps. 1 to power 2 sub and other powering the other 2. some one please help me out what should i do? Will is sound ok with just 1 1200watt amp? tell me what you system consist of. thanks!

What is the nominal rating for the fosgate subs? You should match that & it depends on how you are going to box them. If you buy a quality 1200 watt amp, you should be able to power all 4 subs depending.

each sub max is 1000watts. I know 1200 watt amp can power all 4 but should I get two amps.capacitor?

Its not necessary but to get the most out of the subs you'll need two amps. You can do more harm to the subs with an underpowered amp than you can by having too much power.

I'd try it with one first, and if you are satisifed with the volume and they're not distorting when you're pushing the amp hard then theres no problem. But it will definitely sound better with two amps.

Make sure you wire the subs correctly to get the right impedance too. 4 subs wired in series are going to create a savage impedance, probably drop to about 1 ohm. If you do it this way make sure the amp can handle the load.

Actually, it depends on what your set up is. Underpowering any sub will never hurt it. Trust me, i've been around the audio scene for a long time. You can even go to forums with audio gurus and they will tell you this. If you are running a sealed enclosure, overpowering it isn't going to hurt the sub. It would be better. If you are running ported, you usually can underpower it. Overpowering a ported sub is bad...usually blows. Getting two amps isn't going to make the subs "sound better". Just make sure your subs are getting proper power. And the most important thing of getting good sound is the enclosure. I work at an audio place all day long so i know these things. I delt with He2's before. They are 400 rms, 800 max. You don't go by the 800. You always go with the RMS(continious watts). I recommend going with a fosgate bx1500 amp. Puts out around 1600 watts and comes with a birthsheet of it. It should power them nicely. Getting one amp is also easier on your electrical system also thumbsup Hope that helps a little..i just wanted to clear some things up with veilside300..

Underpowering any loudspeaker is bad, because you have to consider musical peaks, particularly if he listens to music with a lot of bass. While this peak may only last for a second, the power output (rms) required from the amp could be double that of what it would be normally. With an underpowered amp you do not have the headroom and distortion will be introduced to the driver because in-car amplifiers often do not have the clipping that professional amplifiers have.

Running two amplifiers on four subs as opposed to one amplifier will always sound better because of the extra headroom.

Considering your job is probably to advise people on the optimum setups for their systems, you do not seem to know what you are talking about. It is a well known rule that a subs RMS rating should be matched or bettered by the amplifier. If not, damage can be caused to the drivers when playing at high volumes for long periods of time.

He did not say what rating the 1000 watts for his subs are, but this is unlikely to be RMS, and I doubt the amp rating he quoted was RMS either. I'm guessing its the Peak power rating so lets just use that rating.

Therefore 1 1200 watt amplifier is giving 300 watts to each driver rated at 1000 watts. Anyone can tell you that this is ridiculously underpowered.

My suggestion would be to get two 2000 watt amps, and wire each pair of subs together in series to create a 2 ohm load (i'm assuming they're rated at 4 ohms). I'd then replace your battery with a dedicated one for high powered in-car systems.

I didn't say that you were totally wrong. Just want to let you know that. I'm just trying to help him out like you. If you have an amp that is 10 watts powerering a sub that is 300 watts then thats bad but if you have a sub that is 400 watts rms and your giving it 300-350 rms...it's not going to harm it. Some subs can't even take the extra watts such as the Infinity Kappa Perfects for an example. They will blow. His subs are 400 watts rms so he should stick around with an amp that will power each of his subs. Like i said, you can go to best local audio place and say what i just said and they will tell you i'm right. But you are right with some things. But saying two amps will sound better is not. As long as one amp is going to put out real continuous watts that match up with the subs, then it's ok. If he gives his subs 150 watts then at high volumes, he will be clipping and it will sound bad. But underpowering by a little will not. Most people who run nice set ups do not even get up to there rms watts yet. Here check out Sounddomain.com forums and maybe you get a better understanding. There are very smart people on that board and can answer all your questions if you don't believe me. That's that only place i can think of right now that can help you. Hope that helps. And to veilside300, i'm not trying to pick a fight or argue with you. We both are just trying to help. It's all good. grin

How about just get rid of that all and get 1 JL 13w7 with a JL 1001 amp in a ported enclosure and it will be just as loud as all that stuff.

I just want to add that the stock alternator of the celica will never be able to power that system to the full potential.

haha, that's why i made the comment that one amp would be easier on the electrical system. But on a serious note...if you are not making your car into a show car, i think in MY opinion, that one subs is more than enough in celica. We have a small cabin. So one sub would be loud anyways.

It didn't really dawn on me the extent of four 1000 watt 12inch subs in a celica. rofl

Are you competing in sound offs or just looking for quality sound? If you're going for deeper bass, then opt for one 18 or one 15 rather than multiple 12s. Or ideally get one 15 and one 12.

You should state what you want to get out of your system then maybe we could give you better advice.

The four fosgates will sound way louder than the single 13w7. Four twelves will cover more surface area than a single 13w7. But the 13w7 will have way more sound quality then the fosgates can ever have.

Yeah, I just made the suggestion. But if he is competing in sound competitions then go for the gold. Plus like Ricepowered said, our small alternator will shit the bed quick. Personally I'm running 3 JL 10w6v2's but I have an Ohio generator 200 amp alternator, 2 optima batteries and 1 200 farad cap all custom installed. thumbsup

That's some nice equiptment. How is your car's Performance after you got that alternator upgraded? I'm running 2 Pheonix Gold Titaniums 15's with a Hifonics bx1500d amp putting out a clean 1500 watts at 1 ohm. I also have a Yellowtop battery. I don't get dimming or anything. It's really loud also.

Read what the subs RMS ratings are.

Buy an amp that's RMS rating matches that of the Subs RMS rating.

And then get ride of 2 of the subs. No one needs 4 subs.

Why power 4 subs 1/2 way, when you can power 2 subs all the way and get better bass with less space? confused

Performance is really good. No dimming what so ever. Plus I made a grounding kit, following the specs (lengths) of one of the kits on the market. So everything runs smooth. The constant voltage of the system is around 15 back at the batteries in the trunk.
