Hi,

I have a 2001 Celica SX (Australia) auto its done quite a lot of Km's (99,000).

I've had it for about one week and i've noticed that after I start her up, the auto trans. thumps when changing gears, however after i've drive around a bit it goes away, and the gear changes are smooth.

Do I need to change the transmission fluid?
Or does it suggest that the transmission is just mechanically worn. I've checked the fluid level and it is normal.

Thanks for any advice.

Celica trannys do shift a little rough compared to most other automatics.

I would drain the tranny fluid (the plug is on the bottom of the tranny pan) & refill (use the dipstick hole & a funnel). Then drive it for at least 100KM. This will help rinse the old fluid out of your cooling lines, cooling core in your rad & the torque converter.

Then I would do a tranny fluid & filter on it. This will clean it right up & you should probably get a lot smoother operation from your tranny. thumbsup
