my car only has 80000km (45000 miles I think) and it needs to be repainted because the entire car is covered in chips and scratches. I've had numerous "experts" look at the car, and they all agree that it shouldn't be chipping as easily as it does - to give you an idea, I probably find about 5 new chips every time I wash it..
Has anyone had this problem, and if so, have you been able to get Toyota to do anything about it?
Can anyone tell me what would cause this?

cheers

wtf

My car has 78k and the paint still looks marvelous. The only chips are from rocks on the road hitting the hood. frown

Where do you live? Maybe it has something to do with your climate.

You probably didn't get a proper clear coat from the factory. Some vehicles get short changed on clear coat.

the celica seems to have a thinner coat than i have seen on my previous cars. other cars i've had seemed to have a thick paint, but the celica seems to have a thin enamel like coat.

got a few tiny dots on the hood, carbon fiber should fix this though.

hey, remember tailgating isn't always drafting!

I'm doubtful that Toyota will chip (<--get it! rofl it's a play on words...mmmk) in to repaint your car. are there even paved roads in Saskatchewan? j/k, I know there are. Sorry about your luck though. Did you buy the car new or used? If it's out of warranty then you might be SOL.

o yeah - and to top it all off, we baught extended warranty, so we spent an extra $600 for nothing (well, nothing so far, I'm covered till november) .. Im just pissed that Toyota gives absoulutly no admition that it would be in any way possible for them to have used defective paint, or that it wasnt applied properly.

I've got the normal paint chips from highway driving as well but nothing as drastic as you are experiencing...
