My 2000 GTS has had a misfire code ever since I installed unorthodox racing pullies. I have a Greddy E-manage and profec-e01 and I've tried to tune the car better. I have much more power with some ignition advance, but nothing take the light away. Does anyone else have this problem or an answer?

did you try resetting your ecu? unplug your negative battery terminal for a few minute and see if it pops back on next time your driving.
and if your car is having problems with the pulleys..it definately would not be the first i've heard. i've heard a lot of complains about them.

If I remember right, I read that unorthodox pullies don't have harmonic ballancers on them. This is a bad thing. But before I took the pullies off, I'd have someone check the code for me to see what it was. Then if it's related, I'd take'em off. Actually, I'd probably take'em off anyway due to the things I've heard, but that's your choice.

The only harmonic balancer is on the crankshaft. The main pulley probably bolts to it. If someone was stupid enough to remove that balancer, they are the idiot. The kits I have seen for my GT only have 1 pulley for the alternator & that's it.

I guess this discussion is new here on this site. If you go to the *other* one it's been debated to death with techical knowledge to back up the arguments.
I was about to install my UR crank pulley, BUT after reading what I read *there* I changed my mind.
I do keep an open mind, but I also factor "risk" in my decisions.
I get my kicks on EC.

...and a CEL should be the least of your worries. I would take off the crank pulley, read up on the *other* site, and then make your decision either way. Just trying to help.

Thanks for all the replys. Yes the crank pully does remove the harmonic balancer, but think about this for a second. The flywheel is also used to reduce vibration in the crank shaft and their are some many people out there that are using light weight flywheels, with no problem. Also the pullies have been on the car for over a year now and belive me I drive it like it was made to be driven. The power gain from the pullies alone are worth the check engine light. One more food for thought, have you ever heard of knife edging your crankshaft, another racing trick, also messing with the balance of everything. The thing is I contacted Unorthodox Racing about the light and they said they had never heard of this problem before. So I'm woundering why mine is the first. The first time I was on this web site I read about a check engine light in 2000 GTS models that was for a misfire or random cylinder misfire code and it said that there was a ecu/fuel injector problem. The only way to get the code to go away was to replace the ecu with a 2001 GTS ecu and change out the injectors to the replacement ones. Has anyone had to do this yet? I have also had the car hooked up to an ODB2 scan tool and watched as it reported over 20 misfire at 2000 rpm within seconds, but the car doesn't miss a beat. The stupid light dosen't really have any effect on driveablity at all, it's just a pain in the ass to see every day. Other then the light the pullies have had no bad effects on the engine. They have proven to be one of the largest power gains for the money that I have installed so far.

A harmonic balancer is like getting your tires balanced, its only purpose is to be a counterweight for the rotating mass. It offsets an imbalance. You should NEVER remove that harmonic balancer. A flywheel is supposed to be balanced itself. It should be symetrically weighted. Its not used as a balancing mechanism. Put that counterbalancer back on or you will have no crank bearings before long. The vibration will flatten them out & they will fail.
