Basically, it's a cable operated throttle body for the exhaust system. At the closed position, it reduces exhaust flow and quiets exhaust noise (good for dB testing), and at wide open, it allows full flow and sound.

Just wondering if it's made for 2.5" piping, and how effective it is. I'll have the TPR 4-2-1 race header, TPR midpipe, and TPR exhaust soon, and all of those will make my car noticeably louder (possibly still legal / 95dB). I want to attract the least number of cops as possible so I can keep the performance of the system, and I was hoping this would be an easy solution to accomplish that.

Muffler silencer insert. Cheap, easy, and guaranteed to work.

I have a feeling that thingy won't work very well.

Yeah, but I don't want to have to pull over and attach the insert every time I want to race someone. wink Besides, if I see a cop coming close to me in the middle of the freeway, I'm sure as hell not gonna be able to pull over in time to put the insert in. tongue This valve accomplishes the same thing as the insert, though: restriction. But it's much, much faster to turn on and off. smile

If it's 2.5" and put after the last muffler/resonator in the exhaust system, it shouldn't slow down exhaust gasses any more than they've already been slowed down.

I called Arospeed and one person I spoke to said the one for the civic/integra or just civic (same thing) was 2.5". I just looked at my notes: it's Alfred at ext 306 who told me 2.5".
I plan on calling again and speaking to someone else to confirm it (with more certainty). (I call a lot of performance companies and sometimes I get different answers.)

I have it on my car and love it. I don't believe it affects performance very much at wide open. If it did I can't see the thin plate robbing any significant amount of power.

Yes it's great to open her up when you want the power but otherwise stay quiet when cruising around. I like cruising with it 3/4 closed, and it's very quiet at this setting on my custom exhaust with no resonator and only (2) 45 degree bends. I've cruised by cops with it 3/4 closed and I don't get any special attention. Fully closed on my setup is almost as quiet as stock. But fully closed feels like the gasses are getting backed up and having trouble getting out... like a constipated Celica ew grin . Now who says there is no such thing as _________ lol . I can start an argument with at least one member, but I don't have time now to try to explain to someone who might not ever understand it. it's good fun though. anyways...one argument at a time and I'm currently occupied grin.

I actually have the ECV placed before the CAT, since this is what Arospeed recommended for best sound suppression when closed (the guy that time said closer to the header is quieter...I don't know if this is true). Again I don't see performance being hurt by having it there. But we won't know for sure until someone dyno-tests it. Kind of pain since it's a weld job, but I suppose you can just weld flanges around it, and put a short pipe in it's place to test.

Blue_Bomber, I just called Arospeed and a sales rep said all of the models are 2.5".

Thanks, QTRMLR_1! thumbsup I'll probably put it between the two flanges on the TPR exhaust (between muffler and tip), just so I won't have to do any cutting of the main exhaust system. I'll just have TPR make my exhaust with a custom 3 bolt flange set instead of 2. smile I would also think the ECV would last longer in that spot, since it's waaaay cooler near the tip (right before the cat is the hottest spot).
