Does anyone know where to get this oil filter?
Toyota Oil Filter #
90915-YZZA1 (GTS)

What exactly is the oil filter for anyways and what is the difference from the oil filter above and other ones like Fram?

Get the filter at the Dealer. I stock up when they send me the coupons. Look inside the filter and compare it you will notice the difference. Toyota has great filters Fram is not so good. I use the TRD Japan Filter it's the red one works real well. They has the TRD US Filter little less cheaper white in color.

You can get that oil filter from Toyota dealer.
Oil filter is used to filter partilcle from engine oil.
The difference from Toyota oil filter and cheap oil filters are quality of the filter, capacity of the filtration material, anti-drainback valve (prevent oil drainback to the oil pan after engine shut off, in order to help protect engine from cold start).
I'm sure other quality oil filters (such as K&N) have anti-drainback valve and quality filtration material. They normally have better capacity too. Use good quality oil filter will definitely prolong life of your engine (cleaner oil)
IMO, stock oil filter does pretty good job, and is designed for your engine. Toyota have been known for their quality/reliable parts. I trust them on this one.
