My and the gf are looking to test drive cars. Its more so to decide if we really want what we want. We figure well just go to the overpriced automall and use them for test drives. Im gonna see if theyll give me the keys to a gts stick. Id also like to test drive the competition incase the celi doesnt like me. It should be fun.

So im back with some great stories. I test drove 2 celis today. The first was a 2000 gts 6 speed. I found it on an infinity lot. It looked clean but it lacked leather and there was 56000 miles on it. I decided to test drive it anyways on the basis to see how the tranny liked me. It was actually pretty decent to me on my first try. I started out good no stalling and we worked our way through a couple of lights and then to the 101. I was really disappointed at the traffic and not being able to hit lift. So i warned the guy i was gonna go for it so he wouldnt spaz. He didnt know what I was talking about so I said youll see. I did a 6 to 4 shift and the guy looked like he was gonna die. I went through 5th and sixth and kept going. I decided when the next opening in traffic i would do it again. This time didnt go so well though. Insstead of 4th i hit 2. It was bad. really loud and really whiny. The dealer almost shit a brick. Luckaly i was quick to hit the clutch and decided tht was enough for now. I dont thik i broke it but I agrivated it something fierce. it stayed really loud and whiny sounding until we got off the 101 and stpped at a light. At this point I was getting a little uneasy that I broke the car good. The guy never said anything but when the light went green I stalled it. The car was pretty mad cause I stalled it again. 3rd time was the charm and the car was much quieter in regards to the previous whining. So all in all I think it went well. Im hoping I didnt permanently damage it in my haste to lift. I was pretty successful in talking the gu down in price but told him i didnt want it cause it didnt have leather. Id talk about the 2nd test cuse that was fun too but Im tired and this post is already too long. Ill write it up tomorrow.

Well i got overzealous. Its a damn fun car to drive and lift was too tempting. The car was fine by the time it went back to the dealer. And Im certain that I want the manual after comparing the autostick and the manual.

And yes I have driven stick before except the stick ive driven was an 89 vette that has a hell of a lot more torque which makes take offs a lot better and i like the gm 6 a little better. But hey Ill oly get better on the celi.

I stalled once when I was test driving my Celica, I had only driven cars with aftermarket 6-puck clutches before then so it was different to go from hard fierce engagement to stock smooth engagement. It's a good thing to mis-shit and see if a car breaks BEFORE you but it, because why would you want to break your own car, break it at the test drive and just say you don't like the car, then the dealer fixes it not you. If a car can't handle a test drive then it's not worth buying in the first place. Always drive a car pretty harsh on a test drive to see if it can handle it because you know you're going to drive it harder when you get it home that's why it's a test drive.

Driving it pretty harsh and doing a 5-2 misshift (at hwy speeds) is two different things.

He would've been fine if he just kept taking it to redline.

Wow dude, I didn't like it when I was test-driving the Celica I bought, and the salesman insisted on hitting lift and revving it. With 56K it was probably OK, but watch the misshifts!

Well im still holding out for leather. But as of now we bought my gf a 2003 v6 stang. I tried to get her in an auto gts but she likes the fords. We got a good price though. We paid 13400 OTD for a 2003 bright red on tan with 19000 miles. So for the time being im driving her old 89 celebrity. ITs old and not worth anything but the motor works fine and im just gonna be driving to construction sites. I dont really want to have to worry about paint chips on a celi yet. Plus this car only costs like 500 a year to insure as opposed to the celi quotes i got for 2000. So with all that in mind im putting the celi purchase on hold till the paychecks build up a bit and i find the perfect one.
