I wonder what hood pins for? I don't think it looks good on the hood, why people still put them on?

Hood pins are a good idea to have if you get a carbon fiber hood because the hood is so light that at high speeds your good may fly off. air gets under it and flexes the hood and pulls it right off. Hood pins clamp down on the hood so it doesnt do this

just in case so it won't slam against your windshield while driving. some carbon fiber hoods doesn't latch as good as the stock.

they're pretty much a necessity for Carbon Fiber hoods... I'd rather not put them on and keep it clean but safety demands it

Where do the hood pins mount to the car?

But where in that location are they attached to the body of the car? Are new holes drilled somewhere to screw them on to the frame?

there are actually two depressions already present under the hood where one must drill to attach them

when i got the vis oem hood with the raised hood scoop, i also bought hoopins made by sparco but i never installed it. i think it looks a lot better without them. i get a little tense driving around 90 on the freeway(takes almost two hours to get home from school) but i don't like how hoodpins look.

righteous_one pretty answered it. There's also other types such as hood locking pins with key, and the hood pins with cables. If you feel you aren't able to put a hole through your hood yourself get a pro to do it. No going back once you mess up with Carbon Fiber.

If you're hood has a good hood latch design then you may not need the pins but it is a wise investment if you're worried about the hood smacking the windshield at high speeds. My latch is molded between the Carbon Fiber & is adjustable. I've tried all three different pins after going through 3 hoods and 1 hood without which I have now. The one with the pins is safer and more stable to wind gust. I would reccomend puting them on if you don't trust your hood latch. A lot of hood latches on Carbon Fiber hoods aren't strong and many don't close properly. Hood pins fix all this. I like them with and without. Carbon Fiber hoods are for "off roaduse" only. If you buy one they will demand hood pins put on them. It's up to you if you want to follow that rule or take a chance.
