Johnsgt,
Tell me about what he has done so far, maybe it will help as I build mine.
AzNRacer,
I'm wondering the same thing. I was hoping to get some opinions on that from the pros on here. Like how much does it matter that the MR2 is RWD and mid engine. Will our wheels spinning keep us from getting the same time as the MR2?
ikin,
c2gas builds our tranny to handle it.

QTRMLR_1 and c2gas gave me a lot of good advise on this in my other topic on this page "Greddy E-manage ECU help please"
Still waiting for QTRMLR_1 to give me his opinion on all the parts that are going on my turbo kit right now. Them guys know some shit.

he has a custom gear set from c2gas, being shipped atm.

if he does run 11's it will be at 2700ft elevation LACR.

there's a lot of prep work going into the car. Hopefully it will all come together for IDRC finals at LACR.

We are definately going to have a harder time launching with that kind of power...WOW! Furthermore, the MR2 weighs under 1 ton. We would have to shave some weight to hit 11's.

Rocketman,
Wouldn't a limited slip differential and a good set of drag slicks make us able to launch about the same? I don't know much about drag racing, I'm just trying to figure out how hard it would be to get 11's.

Good. If was easy, everybody would do it and having an 11 second Celica wouldn't be anything special.
If I wanted easy, I would just get a Civic like the other billion people who just jump on the band wagon.
So it will be hard, but not impossible right?

If you put the 6 speed gear set on a turbo GT, you can hit 180mph in 6th gear (technically)

Low 12s - high 11s depending on tires.

11's on a 7th gen is only a matter of time.
it's mainly a function of driver, tires, suspension setup, and track.

if you take a look at that MR2 timeslip, you'll notice the 60 ft time of 1.748 s. now compare that to mrtomcat's record setting 1.85 s 60 ft on his GTS. it's only a matter of time.

no the Elise is the one under a ton. Judging from how much weight Lucky_317 was able to remove from his GTS, one could get a GT (a little lighter than a GTS) down to stock MR2-S weight. maybe a few more lbs but close. unfortunately a full chromoly roll cage might add 40-50 lbs, but as you can see the MR-S just runs with a roll bar which is of course the basic requirement for that car. I don't know if I'm allowed to mention the person JohnsGT and Illusive are referring to, but I'm almost certainly going to be out at LACR to watch the built turbo GTS run. If I'm reading the LACR rules correctly, I think he will need a roll bar if he hits 11.99 or faster. If he hits it in the finals then I guess they can't do much about that.

his online name is smaay on the "other "new" celica site.

and if he does hit 11.99 I'm pretty sure he wont be worried about a roll cage because we'll all be slappin high fives.

at any rate stafford can fab one up overnight and If I remember correctly he was purchasing a pipe bending machine, if it comes in in time smaay shoud have the roll cage fabricated and in the car, so it wont be a problem.

The following may be obvious to a lot of people, but I will still say this for some who may not realize it:

You don't launch with all 384.4 whp (unless you can grip of course like pros). That's what boost control is for. mrtomcat launched just "fine" at 1.85 s 60 ft with his turbo GTS with a lot less horsepower than 384.4 whp. That record 1.85 s was on drag radials by the way and not on slicks.

Ok, I realize that. However, you are going to be launching with a lot more power than stock regardless... In a FWD car it can be very difficult. I remember Lucky talking about his friend that has the Blitz Supercharger (I realize totaly different than a turbo in a launch). He was saying, that just the extra 20 torque in the low end made it almost impossible to get grip even with DR.

The PFC adds 18 ft-lbs on the low end, and EDIT: Lucky_317 (didn't include _317), EDIT: Illusive (left an "l" out of his name) etc have no problem launching 2.0's which they also do with the stock ecu.

Yes, the SC is instant torque from idle on up. It may be hard for that person, but it wouldn't be if he/she had the right setup. The Blitz SC sucks for drag racing anyway so why bother launching. Turbo is the way to go on the Celica for drag racing. And heck, you say "a lot more power than stock"? If you want, with electronic boost control you can launch at such low psi you're barely any more than stock. I gave mrtomcat's example of his TURBO GTS pulling a 1.85 s 60 ft. I didn't need to, and I don't need to say any more.
