Got my 02 GTS last month, so I'm still experimenting with the whole VVTLi phenomenon. First time I went for it, I was cruising in 6th about 70mph and slammed down to 3rd and roared up into redline through the gears until I noticed I was >100mph and pulled back. The thrill of lift was undoubtedly embedded in the normal acceleration experience one might expect with a spirited 6-3 shift.
Since then, I've gone for it a few times a week, most consistently on a highway on ramp near my house, where radar would be difficult to set up. Just to play with it somewhat, I slowly eaaaaasssed through the gears yesterday, hitting the 6200rpm in second, then back up in 3rd. The lift phenomenon was not nearly as pronounced as when I heavy throttled through the 6k...if I didn't know about VVTLi, I would say the 30% increase in bhp was barely noticeable.
As the car has 27k miles, I am picking up new n' improved bolts tomorrow and will install over the weekend. It will be interesting to see if there's abnormal wear on the OEM bolts...stay tuned

6 to 3 is not the worst thing. but 70 mph at 6th to 3rd is a little torturing. so you landed exactly near 6000rpm. the third gear goes upto 80mph if i remember. too bad you cant have too much fun with it though cz ur lift goes til 7800rpm

Look into the speeds that your car can go per gear. I think it says so in the owners manual. Well, then again...that's recommended speeds.

6 to 3?!?! jesus christ, you have more balls than I do yeah man you should try it omg!! Its fucking amazing I do 6<>3 from a 60mph its safer and not as tortuing to the car but from a 70mph roll thats a lil on the rough side when pushing it. Either way its so damn nice hearing lift kick in in 3rd gear, especially when 3rd gear LIFT lasts for so long

6 -> 3 @ 70mph is not that bad, it'll land just near lift. for our car to pull on anyone, we need to drop our clutch like that to keep up and pull. yup, it's a good thing you're checking up on your lift bolts...

swap your 02 ECU, o2 sensor, and knock sensor with a 2001 GTS's and you'll have even more fun hitting lift.
